When I was a child, one of my favorites at the kopitiam (coffee shop) was the kaya and butter toast. Woohoo! This usually happened when we take a pitstop when travelling by car between (at the time) Teluk Intan (then Teluk Anson) and Kuala Terengganu.
So one day, I decided to indulge in nostalgia.
I went to Yitcha Kaw Kaw Kopitiam to have an early meal. As usual, my beverage of choice is iced Kopi C (no sugar).
The bread was very thin and was spread with a layer of kaya and instead of spreading the butter, they applied it like what you see up there.
Well, upon first bite it was, wah!!!! I haven't had this in a long, long, long, time.
Of course I had to have protein. Usually when I can, it is proteins first, then carbs. But since the toast was served first and the eggs came after, I did carbs first.
I don't know if it was sugar added or it was my tastebuds (very sensitive to sweet taste, even a little). Luckily I only put a tiny amount. So no more of this soy sauce for me.
I finished my drink and look how much ice was in the cup. After that off I went to do my duty of buying and delivering lunch to mum.
The quote and illustration is beautiful and true! I love toast! I love toast with bacon and eggs...or ham and eggs, or sausage and eggs, or just with eggs! Sometimes I like toast with peanut butter and apple jelly...and nothing else. Your photos are great, everything looks so good!
ReplyDeleteGood morning! So coincidentally I had breakfast promo set with black coffee, 2 soft boiled eggs and 2 toasts at my neighborhood coffeeshop this morning (costs S$2 from 6am to 11am). For the soft boiled eggs, I ate one of the whole egg yolks in my mouth without any sauce. The second egg yolk I had it with some soy sauce. Both tasted heavenly. I had my protein and vitamin D first as the carbs/toasts were served later. The toasts were not as satisfying as the kaya and butter were too thinly spread. The way they put the butter in your toasts is the best so that you could taste the butter melt in your mouth.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the last poster/quote. If everybody can be like that, this planet earth will be a peaceful and wonderful place but just like Monk Xing Yun said, "In this society there are bound to be good/kind people and bad people. For the bad people, know where their wickedness lie in but do not criticize them as they will never admit yet on the other hand learn to protect yourself from them so as not to be harmed by them. Hope you learn something this morning 🌅🌄
ReplyDeleteThe poster/quote is a ray of hope and sunlight in this imperfect planet earth. Thanks for giving us hope and encouragement my dear friend. Have a good day ahead!
ReplyDeleteActually whether is it Christianity or Buddhism, there are some similarities in the teachings though the gods we worship are different. Like your poster/quote, if translated into Buddhism teaching terms, this is what Buddha God teaches us, "Think good thoughts, say good things and do good deeds." Something we do with our Mind, Mouth and Body.
ReplyDeleteCompared with toasted bread, I prefer steamed bread for the softness and steaming hot when served.
