Well, well. It's 2020! It doesn't feel any different to me. I guess how good a year is, it's up to us to make it so. Last year 2019 was all right for me, better than 2018.
Now about the holiday. No Japan. No Korea. No China. No Europe. No Australia.
I stayed HOME. My best holiday destination, I tell you. I know, I am very strange.
I took a few days off work (and blogging) and spent a wonderful time at home. I got to hangout with my cat.
And I assembled 8 bookshelves which I bought during the 12.12 sales.
I am not much of a handyman/woman but I managed. I ended up with a very sore arm and hand.
My cat hung out with me the whole time. She was so bored.
And she fell asleep hee..hee...
I also embarked on a major spring cleaning project and gosh! I couldn't believe the amount of crap I accumulated over the years.
I threw out quite a bit of things which I don't use anymore. I also tossed out 5 pairs of jeans which were sitting in my cupboard for the last 20 years and no longer fit me. Bah! How I managed to fit into those pants astounds me. Maybe I am more muscular now wahahaha!!!
With my time taken up by housekeeping, there was no time to cook. So. Grabfood!
I had Nando's.
Salads from La Juiceria Goodness Greens Cafe.
Rojak!
Poke bowl from The Fishbowl.
Then I got tired of outside food and raided the freezer for leftover food prep.
hee..hee...my partner's food stock. Eh, it tasted quite good. No wonder he never complains.
Besides cleaning and de-cluttering, I also did a new year food prep for my partner.
One dish meals are the easiest.
Pasta is also very practical.
I had a bit of disaster when I underestimated the amount of macaroni (it was all I had left). Three minutes before time, I quickly added angel hair pasta into the boiling macaroni.
That saved the day. Sort of.
For my new year day lunch today I had this.
Mutton Varuval Biryani.
Very aromatic with generous mutton chunks. But this biryani is unlike the taste of biryani that I am more accustomed to. Different style I suppose.
I ordered a portion of Aloo Gobi and was surprised when it came like this. I thought Aloo Gobi is supposed to be a dry dish.
That was a very heavy lunch and I don't think I need dinner.
I am not in the habit of making new year resolutions but I intend to eat more wholesome/healthy home cooked food. I ate out too much in 2019.
So that wraps up my day one of 2020. I wish all of you a Happy, Healthy and Successful year ahead!
I do agree with you. Home is the best. We also stay at home whole day today. Raining whole day here.
ReplyDeleteI cooked lunch and dinner today. McD for breakfast. Kids' NY wish.
Briyani. Long time didnt have that.
It's so hot now. Looks like the heat is back! I wish it would rain!
DeleteIt rained every day since last year!! Wet and cold. I wish for sun over here instead. Haha.
DeleteHi PH.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year 2020!
Smile always!
Happy New Year, Amie! Amie pun smile always and cook always hah..hah...
DeleteI am going to start my springcleaning soon too. My resolution for year 2020 is to eat more vegetarian food other than the 1st and 15th of the lunar month, do more life liberation and lastly love myself more.
ReplyDeleteHappy 2020 to you ph, may all your wishes come true.
Oh yes, I had vegetarian food recently. Will blog about it. Happy 2020 and let's eat more vegetarian food :)
DeleteHappy New Year to you and Ah Girl! I love how she is just so relax hanging out with you while you are assembling the cupboard. I agree with you that holiday at home is the best because that is what I did this year too.
ReplyDeleteGlad to know that you enjoyed a holiday at home too! What I enjoyed most was time spent with my Ah Girl :)
DeleteHappy New Year! I was wondering what you've been up too, quiet for so long.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, east, west, home is best. I've been to two places for a few days each and actually, I spent at least some RM10,000 on air fares, hotels and everything - the things that I can do and buy with that kind of money.
Oh! RM10K is a whole lot of money but it's OK, once in a while to splash for a holiday with the family. I think it is money well spent.
DeleteHi, welcome back...and happy 2020!! For someone whose blog is about baking and cooking, (I agree) you certainly did very little of that last year...hahaha! ;D If I'm half as good a cook as you, I'd be eating mostly home-cooked meals too. So, your 2019 resolution of eating wholesome & healthy food is indeed a good one...let's see how long you can keep that up...heehee! ;)
ReplyDeleteAssembled 8 bookshelves? Wow! You must have bought a lot of books that needed storage. I never buy open bookshelves as they collect so much dust. My bookshelves are all with glass doors as I'm too lazy to do any wiping.
There's a reason why furry friends are called your best friends. They'll hang out with you no matter what unlike friends and family sometimes who have no time for you or are too invested in their own priorities.
Good to be back! I really got lazy and unmotivated with cooking and oh, you are too kind with your compliments hee..hee...
DeleteMy existing bookshelf could not accommodate the books I acquired over the years and my hints fell on somebody's deaf ears wahahaha!!! So I bought those el cheapo bookshelves and assembled them myself. If you want something, you just have to go get it yourself! Bah! hee...hee....
Oh yes, you got that right. Our cats are so faithful and it really warms my heart to see my Girl following me everywhere and sitting it out when I was tidying up the house.
Happy New Year PH!!! all the foods look yummy here....Ur cat is so loyal and stay by ur side all the time!
ReplyDeleteToo much Grabfood last year LOL! My cat really warms my heart. I love her so much!
DeleteHepi new year PH, sori la long time not visit you, hihi. I malas menulis la.
ReplyDeleteBtw..tq visiting me
No problem! PH faham heh..heh...
DeleteI've started my spring cleaning too, my room alone enough to make me headache (but I'm done with it) and I really don't want to think about the kitchen and living room >_<
ReplyDelete2020 is estimated not good (or should I say very bad ~>_<~) to my zodiac (horse if you wan to know :P), hopefully I have a peaceful and safe 2020.
Don't believe too much in all these predictions. There are many horses in this world with different elements and different parameters in their lives, so you might be all right. As they say, keep a low profile and think positive!
DeletePhong Hong, Happy New Year 2020 to you. I came here as your blog is always for me to release my tension, as I can view all the good food, including your baking. I have bookmarked several recipes from yours, i hope i can bake them la! You know la! I always so busy with my exercise routine, i hardly have time to bake la!
ReplyDeleteHi Yannie! hah..hah... you seem to exercise all the time. Take a break and bake a cake! LOL!
DeleteHappy New Year to you and yours. I have yet to go through my things, there's lot to give or throw away. Just finished vacuuming the whole house today. I love home cooked meals but I also like eating out too especially when I am bored with cooking.
ReplyDeleteAfter more than one week, I still have a lot more cleaning to do! Housework is like forever. LOL!
Deletetotally agree that contentment is a state of mind - and if we can't find contentment at home, we'll be searching for it in vain anywhere else. hope you'll find plenty of contentment everywhere you go, wherever you are in 2020! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope for the same for you, Sean!
DeleteHappy New Year, PH!
ReplyDeleteQuite productive "holiday" for you :)
Very productive and very tiring too. But that did not stop me from eating a lot. LOL!
DeleteYeah, home is the best! Have a great, healthy and happy 2020 to you, PH. Etizolam RX
ReplyDeleteHave a great 2020 too, Braddie G!
