I know those muesli bars up there look like a disaster. It was one of those Sundays when I tried to overachieve. I do that to myself all the time and sometimes I end up feeling overwhelmed.
I read Zoe's post on these Cookie-Like Muesli Bars Slices that her son was crazy about. I have since lost my baking mojo and hence you don't see Phong Hong Bakes baking anything. So I thought this recipe would give me a shot in the arm.
So. Since it was a busy Sunday with my meal prep and all, I set out to bake these muesli bars. It's not that difficult to make. You basically mixed up a bunch of stuff with melted butter and honey and bake it. I did not have golden syrup, so I substituted with honey.
What came out of the oven smelled wonderful. It was nutty and coconutty. I let it cool for a while before I sliced them into bars. I did not do a good job and as Zoe mentioned, these are crumbly.
They are crispy on the outside and very chewy in the middle. Not too sweet at all. Though I enjoyed these muesli bars when they were still warm, I found them too chewy for my liking.
If you want to try these homemade muesli bars, please refer to Zoe's recipe here. Zoe's recipe is nut-free but I have added walnuts in mine.
Something I've yet to acquire the taste for...
ReplyDeleteI am not really a fan of it.
DeleteIf i were to do it, the outcome will be no eye see...
ReplyDeleteNo need to see. Just open mouth and eat :D
DeleteWhy do you say your muesli bars look like a disaster? It looks alright to me....but if you say it's chewy, then it's probably not for me too.
ReplyDeleteI didn't slice it nicely :( Somehow, I can't appreciate chewy snack. I love them crunchy.
DeleteI like chewy but are them hard chewy or soft chewy cos I prefer soft chewy. Not sweet is good for me but is the melted butter or honey very sticky? I don't like gooey stuffs sticking to my teeth.
ReplyDeleteThey are soft chewy, so ngam for you. Not really sticky as they didn't stick to my teeth hee..hee...
DeleteDid your partner help you eat them or do you have to eat them yourself? If you don't want to eat them anymore and there are still leftovers, please send them my way. :D Hehehehe!
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't eat this sort of thing, so just me. This is a small recipe so, very sorry no more for you hah..hah...

DeleteHi Phong Hong,
ReplyDeleteIf I make this, maybe we will end up using spoon to eat it ... don't think I'll make a neat cut.
Easier to just eat with spoon - good idea!
DeleteHi phong hong
ReplyDeleteYour muesli bars to me look crunchy outside but chewy inside..
Which is ok for me..talking abt this mayb I should do muesli bars for my boys...
Since I have most of the ingredients at home...thanks for the idea Phong Hong!..
Hi Ayu! Your boys will like it especially when still warm.
DeleteI think I saw these Muesli bars selling in the supermarket but I never buy cos I think they look hard to me and I have no teeth to eat :P
ReplyDeleteMany muesli bars are quite soft and they are the best energetic replacement meals to slim down very fast!
DeleteYes, TM is right. Muesli bars are soft and chewy.
DeleteThey look great! Like you I love crunchy snacks but not the chewy ones that tend to stick to my teeth.
ReplyDeleteIt's quite a nuisance to have food stuck to the teeth!
DeleteOh wow, you even make your own muesli bars! Thumbs up! xoxo
ReplyDeletehee..hee.. thanks, Shirley! Home made is better so that I can put what ingredients I prefer.
