A Taste of Thai@Sen of Thai (CLOSED)

Hi everyone! It's Christmas and I suppose the right thing to do is to wish one and all a very Merry Christmas! Well, I am actually in the office as we speak (right before hitting the publish button that is). I was here since this morning. In fact I was here yesterday too. But please, don't feel sorry for me because I came in by choice. I simply wanted to clear off some work and hopefully this time next year, I will be able to relax or at the very worst, be holding a mop in the house hah..hah.. Looking back, last year's Christmas  was a lot more fun. 

I have no special plans for the evening so let me tell you what I did last week. Last Friday my partner delighted me when he said "Let's try the new Thai restaurant opposite RHB Bank". Yes! Yes! Yes! hee..hee..hee.. He knows I love Thai food and this is currently the only Thai restaurant in Uptown Damansara.

We were early, arriving slightly after 7pm. We were the only ones there. Good. That means we can get seated quickly and served quickly. We got to choose where we wanted to seat too. My partner led me to the only table with flowers. Gee...I didn't know he was that romantic hah..hah...

Mind you, these are no ordinary flowers. The server pointed to us that these flowers are carved from radishes by the chef. Wow!

We took our seats and the server promptly handed us the menu. It is a small menu offering limited but good choices of familiar Thai dishes. .

Sen of Thai opened about 4 months ago and at the moment the Uptown beautification program arrived at the street in front of the restaurant. Not good timing and pretty bad for business because the road is one big mess with all the digging and limited parking space. The situation should improve once the roadworks are completed.

The decor is simple and cosy. This eatery, as I observe, is a Thai food joint that also offers coffee. I guess coffee is the in thing and why not incorporate it into the offerings to cater to a wider audience.

In my own words, this is a latte and tom yum one stop center. That didn't come out right, did it? Apologies, I am a lousy restaurant reviewer and I should stick to baking hah..hah.. But as I have mentioned before, I am not attempting a restaurant review, but rather sharing an experience.

Anyway, my partner left the ordering to me, gleefully telling the server that "she is the boss". The menu is limited which is fine by me. It makes ordering easier or else I would be distracted by too many dishes. These were what I ordered :

You know, my standard order at any Thai restaurant is always the Mango Kerabu. I am that predictable. I would say that the one here is pretty decent and very fiery even by my standards. My partner cannot tolerate too much chilli but in spite of that, he kept helping himself to the kerabu until he couldn't take it anymore. He commented that the dressing is very tasty. I agreed in the midst of my tears hah..hah..

The special for the night was the Deep Fried Seabass with Thai Sauce. For the benefit of my partner, I asked the server if the sauce is very spicy. The Filipino server told me "Ma'am Thai food is very spicy" and offered to request the chef to tone down on the chilies. 

The dish came beautifully presented with a pretty carved rose.

The sea bass was fresh and well executed, crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The sauce was very tasty but in spite of the toned down level of chilies (that is if it was actually toned down) it still packed a zing even for me. I ended up eating a bigger portion and I felt sorry for my partner. But he remarked that the portion of fish was just nice for me alone. It's true hah..hah...

Next up was the Pandan Chicken. At last, something not spicy that my partner could enjoy without any torture.

But we had a complaint about the chicken. It was hard and dry though the seasoning was good. My partner suspected that maybe the chicken has been in the fridge for too long. Maybe. The chicken should be moist, like the ones we have had before at other Thai restaurants.

Our last dish was the Mixed Vegetables, as suggested by the server. It was tasty but nothing out of the ordinary. 

For drinks, we ordered the detox drink simply out of curiosity hah..hah.. If I remember correctly, it is made of watermelon, pineapple and apple juice. It was refreshing and not too sweet.

We did not order desserts as I was quite full, having eaten the lion's share of the meal and my partner is not into desserts. But maybe next time, I would like to try their Famous Thai Red Ruby. 

When my partner inquired if they accepted payment by credit card, the server told him yes. But after a while, he came back and told us that the system was offline. Hmmm....

I would say that I enjoyed the food here except for the Pandan Chicken and I hope that my partner will take me here again to try the other dishes. Next time I must make sure to tell the server that we need to really lower the chili to the lowest level possible.
