My Dad's Garden #3 : Vegetables and Others

This is the final instalment of my Dad's garden. I will show you mainly herbs and vegetables.

This is pandan. It is very handy to have in the garden in case you want to bake pandan chiffon cake. But mum has retired from baking.

Mint. Mum uses this when she makes kerabu.

Pegaga.
I think this is cekor manis. Correct me if I am wrong.
Ulam Raja.
Chives/Kucai.
Ah! Strawberry! My mum told me that an earlier strawberry plant produced fruits but they were very tiny.
My dad planted grapes too.  He had a harvest sometime back from another batch. Small bunch with tiny grapes.
I am always drawn to my dad's roses.
See my hand? LOL!
A fading rose.
Bunga Melur.
I thought this was quite cute, I have
no idea what plant this is.

I should make time to tidy up my own garden which has been grossly neglected. Hopefully one day, I can showcase some of my plants too hee..hee... So that's it from my dad's garden until my next trip back to KT.

  1. Hi Phong Hong, nice garden with lots of herbs and plant. Love the roses, this type of roses got very fragrant scent. When nothing better to do I will want to try to plant strawberry and peanuts, our garden still got lot of empty space. :)

    Have a nice day.

    1. My dad's garden is big if compared to what I have here at home. I wish I had a garden that big but looking at the condition of my garden right, now, that is not a good idea. It will look like a hutan hah,,hah...

  5. Your father has green fingers! It takes hard work to have a herb garden as nice as this. Strawberry and grapes plants can grow in our weather?

    1. Yes, strawberry and grapes can be grown here. But maybe not so ideal and may not get good fruit yield.

    2. Your father has a control climate unit to house the strawberry and grape plants to give them the cool temperature they need?

    3. No, he just plants them in the garden just like all the other plants.

  6. So nice. Looks like ulam heaven! I like!!! Mine is such a disgrace.

That sure looks like cangkuk/cekur manis...but they're too old already. Will have to crush and shred or it will be hard, not that chewable...not nice. The old leaves are not as sweet and nice either.

  9. Your dad has a lovely garden....but you need a lot of space for a garden like that. It's quite nice to be able to pick fresh herbs (or fresh anything) from the garden to add to your dishes, right? I spotted a little pesky pest on your fading rose.....shoo! :D

  13. I love your dad's garden and I could eat all the leaves including making rose tea with the petals.
Now I miss my parent's old house where they had a huge collection of orchids while I planted vegetables. Now that food is expensive today, I should try growing vegetable in flower pots.

  18. Hi Phong Hong,
Your dad's garden is flourishing with lots of flowers, veggies and fruits! I would love to grow fruit trees, but no gardening space! So have to make do with plants in pots and containers! I have been busy lately with my veggies too! Gardening is hard work, my nephew commented that I have grown darker and "tan" now! hehe! Must be all the hours I spent in the garden during the last few months! :)

    1. Hi Joyce! Maintaining a garden is a lot of work, I'll have to agree with you on that. I can't keep up with the weeds :( I would love a bigger garden and more time to spend on gardening. But alas, even with my little garden, it has grown into a belukar hah..hah..hah...
