Lohas@Uptown Damansara (CLOSED)

I finally made my way to Lohas to experience some good organic vegetarian food. I have been here a few times before but that was a long time ago. The first thing I ate here was the vegetarian nasi lemak.  I was amazed by how good it was. It was remarkable how the sambal and curry tasted almost like the regular thing.

I was so impressed that I came here a few more times for the other dishes on their menu. Then I stopped coming when I embarked on my low carbohydrate eating plan. As you know, vegetarian food is quite carb heavy from items like noodles, rice, potatoes and mock meats which are made from flour.

But it looks like I have been on a carbohydrate eating rampage judging from what I have been eating and posting lately. And yes, as a result of my folly, I am now XX pounds heavier and my waistline is X inches larger. But let's not talk about my weight. It's a very depressing topic hah..hah..hah...

In spite of my spreading girth, I am still unrepentant. From where I sat, my eyes zoomed in on the organic gelato and organic snacks.

Look at that. Buy 1 Free 1. I thought this place is supposed to promote healthy food and good eating habits hah..hah... I did go have a peek after my meal but that stuff is very pricey. So, no go.

Anyway, after I browsed through the menu, I settled for the Organic Soya Milk Curry Noodles. I chose the set and it came like this.

Lohas has since revamped their menu and their food presentation has also seen much improvement. It is true, food served on a tray does give it an extra special something. This noodle set came with green tea and a few side dishes.

And not only that, I also got a serving of ginger tea and 2 spirulina tablets. I must find that spoon-like serving thingy for my mum so that she can present my dad's supplements to him like that during his meals hee..hee....

I quite like this set as having all those side dishes makes it all the more enticing. Let's see what I got.

This wanton-looking thing that came with slivers of ginger was disappointing. I don't know what is inside but the whole thing was very starchy and gummy. Not pleasant, I'm afraid.

The edamame looked very dehydrated and wrinkled but the beans inside were fine. No complaints there.

This little fried patty is made with sweet potato I think. It was very nice, crusty on the outside and soft and sweet in the inside. I like this very much.

The salad was quite nice and I liked the sesame dressing.

And this is the sambal, the exact same one that comes with their nasi lemak. This stuff is very good. Spicy and very tasty.

And now, for the main dish, the curry noodles cooked in soya milk (in place of coconut milk).

It had noodles, brinjals, ladies finger, potatoes, tofu puffs, tofu skin and topped with fresh pea sprouts. Of course the gravy is not lemak like santan but the basic spice paste ingredients is all there and the taste and aroma is good. I quite enjoyed this bowl of noodles.

It was very filling and after I finished the whole lot, I did not forget the to take the spirulina. This meal set cost me RM21.50 (non-member price RM23.90). Not cheap as to be expected of organic food. But I don't mind having this once in a blue moon for some self-pampering. Well, I'll be back!

Note : Two hours after the lunch, I was VERY hungry. So....

  3. Organic or vegetarian food is expensive, now you mention both - organic + vegetarian, lagi expensive.. There's this Beyond Vege vegetarian restaurant, sister company of Secret Recipe, wah, mahal.. A bowl of curry noodles cost like RM20+ too, vs the curry noodles at foodcourt RM5.50, kekekeke.. I'm more attracted to your Snickers bar.. I would also want a Mars bar and packet of Milo nuggets too :)

  6. Hey! Same chairs at Payung here, the outdoor section! LOL!!!

Curry noodles look good. We do cook vegetable curry sometimes, my girl loves it but we use santan or evaporated milk. Perhaps one of these days we can give soy milk a try, see what that tastes like.

We have a couple of vegetarian places, including those "healthy" places, here, and they say they do have some nice stuff at those but I have never gone to try as they say the things can be quite expensive. Sigh!!! Maybe I should just drop by one of these days to see what they have in store.

    1. The curry with soya milk was quite good except that it is not lemak. It's a nice change for meaty dishes and I am surprised that the food is actually quite tasty.

  10. You are also looking at healthy vegetarian diet now, not just me alone.
I used to frequent this outlet in DU and 1-U many times before discovering
different menu at Yishenshu and Simple Life. I am glad they are all different.
Why all ladies are often too bothered by their looks, weight and waists??
We should live naturally and happily by accepting the reality.

  11. Not surprising, organic and vegetarian are very expensive! We seldom go for organic or vegetarian food unless my sis in law & family visit us. Looking at the meal set you have ordered, everything looks very nicely presented. But just like you, I will be hungry again and starts snacking again.

    1. That's why I can't convert to vegetarian. I still need my meat to feel full. I think a balanced meal is better lah, some meat and some vege :)

  14. LOL at your epilogue! I can imagine the snickers bar fighting with the two spirulina pills inside your tummy. I will never eat at these vegetarian places like LOHAS, Simple Life, Beyond vege because the prices are beyond my reach. When I feel like going vegetarian, I will just go to a chapfan stall and just take vegetables dishes. Of course they have garlic but I am not trying to be those vegetarians.
