Not Worth The Trouble

Crispy chicken skin. Is it worth it to make a bunch at home?

Probably not. I found it too troublesome.

I chanced upon chicken skins sold at Aeon at RM3.00 per packet (sorry I didn't take note of the weight but it was quite a big packet).

So on Sunday itself, I boiled the skin for some 8 minutes (to get rid of excess fats) and drained the skins in a colander (tossing a few times).

Once sufficiently drained, I tossed the skins with seasonings and left the skins to marinate (and dry further) overnight in the fridge.

Then the next day (Deepavali public holiday), I took them out from the fridge to stand to room temperature for about 30 minutes. Then it was off to the air fryer at 180C for 25 minutes or so, tossing at frequent intervals.

They shrank quite a lot as fats and liquids rendered from the skin. That's why these crispy chicken skins are so pricey.

The result? Crispy addictive chicken skins that I unashamedly devoured within less that 10 minutes. Haiz! That wasn't even on my long weekend plan. Double haiz!

Earlier that morning, again I was in the garden. Ah Boi was hanging around while I was tending to my plants.

Then she went to play and then relaxed on the wall.

Meanwhile, Girl was resting on top of the mailbox watching me as I trimmed by Hibiscus plant.

Girl! You wanna help Ma pull out weeds?

That got her attention and she decided to go next door. Haiz! LOL!

  3. Dear friend, I love ❤️ the quote. I think sometimes it is actually cheaper to eat out or buy an already cooked meal that is made on the premises at a grocery store. For example, by the time you buy bacon, eggs, bread, potatoes, beans, the cost is higher than just getting a meal at let us say McDonald's, for example. Thank you so much for sharing your posts. I always enjoy and appreciate them.

  4. i like to eat deep fried crispy chicken skins but knowing that the seller usually fried them in reused oil (cooking oil that is used multiple times) i freak out....same goes for cakoi, pisang goreng, keropok lekor....It's cheaper to buy than DIY but looking at the dark oil.....yikes!

    1. Oh ya, I am now very scared of recycled oil. Very bad for our health!

  5. If the result is crispy addictive chicken skins (which you devoured in 10 mins meaning it's that good) is worth the trouble, don't you think? Lol!
