An Executor's Job Is Thankless

Well, Friday I had to run errands at the banks in my capacity as executor of my late father's estate.

In fact a couple of days before that I already approached the banks about the matter of the transfer of monies from the deceased's account to the beneficiary (unfortunately not me hah...hah...).

I was relieved that I did not have to travel back to Kuala Terengganu to  settle the transactions since it could be resolved at branch level.

Well, I learnt something from this experience. A bank account has to be opened (after procuring the Grant of Probate) in the name of the executor (in trust for the estate of the  deceased).

All monies belonging to the estate/proceeds from disposal of assets are to be deposited into this trust account. Thereafter it is the responsibility of the executor to distribute the monies to the beneficiaries in accordance with the will.

After the running around and waiting at the banks, I went back to the office to take a breather.

All too soon it was time to eat. I was hungry!

Twins Signature Roast Duck has introduced an All Day Breakfast in their menu. Classic Curry Mee, Roast Pork Curry Mee and Roast Duck Drumstick Curry Mee.

And Fish Ball Noodle. They are hoping to attract the morning breakfast crowd. For me, these items are a bit heavy for breakfast but there are people who have a good appetite in the morning.

They now serve Roast Chicken in place of Soy Sauce Chicken

This is the latest price list for their Signature Roast Duck.

I was rather amused that you can also opt to have the duck served with its head.

This is my default order - half a duck, deboned and a glass of ice Kopi C (no sugar).

The duck was superb - glistening skin, tender and juicy.

I could also detect the aroma and taste of the fragrant herbs.

I was very stuffed after this meal and I went to take a walk. After that it was back to the office to catch up on my work.

  1. Hi dear friend, I am sorry ๐Ÿ˜ž for your loss. The quote is very good.
Your roast duck looks delicious. I would have been amused as well about having the option to include the duck head. I would have not wanted it. LOL! But is that a duck's head I see on your plate...beak and all? So they debone the bird...but not remove its beak?
It sounds like the duck was nicely cooked and had a lovely taste. This is great. Thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š so much for sharing ❤️

    1. Thank you. Linda. Oh no, that wasn't a duck head. In fact I had to look at the photo closely to find what looked like the head (and beak) and realized that it was the drumstick. LOL!

    2. Hah hah hah! The drumstick did look like the head (and beak) if we look closely, LOL!

  2. Good mid afternoon! Guess the beneficiary is your mom, which is the rightful way to do it. The poster/quote is so true! But at times we are unable to do it due to certain circumstances. We will be perfect humans if we can do all, but we are just humans and there is no perfection in this world (plus there are human errors), so we just try our best. I am happy you enjoyed your roast duck meal at Twins after your previous "not so good roast duck experience". Enjoy your relaxing and wonderful weekends, I am enjoying mine!

  3. Maybe to some, the inclusion of the duck head is, for some cultures, they believe you need to eat your food with the head and tail, it symbolises complete unit, do things got head got tail, etc. More for auspicious reasons I believe, just my 2 cents worth hee hee.

    1. Ah, nose to tail dining. If I were to tapau one whole duck, I would request for the whole thing including the head. The neck part is nice with all the surrounding skin!

  4. Today marks the Birthday of SG, Singapore is already 60 years old. I chose to stay home to watch the Live Telecast of National Day Parade in the comfort of my home with Aircon and fan. Breakfast today was Long John Silver's breakfast platter with hot black coffee. Dinner was Vietnamese food in my neighbourhood. I love my Food and Beverage intake for today. Yums! The name of the Vietnamese small cafe is Prosperous Kitchen, with its interior nothing too loud, nothing too fanciful. It has a very humble/laid back setting which I like as it feels like home and I felt like going Vietnam for tour again dining here. Most important their food is affordable and tasty. Hope they do well and I will be back some other days.

  5. Oh, the court grant the probate so fast ah?
No will, getting the Letter of Administration from the court is much more slower.
Wah, your duck looks very yummy ๐Ÿ˜‹

    1. It did take some time and fortunately my dad had a will, or else very susah.

    2. My late mother in law didn't want to write a will though all her children persuaded her to so it took quite long and a fair bit of legal fees to get the letter of administration from the court.

    3. My dad was also resistant towards writing a will. He wanted to wait until last minute but we managed to convince him to get one done.

  6. Congrats on your duck tasting juicy and tender...you must have gotten a really fresh one that day. Actually all these legal stuff to get at one's estate is cumbersome and takes time. That's why it's best to transfer or include your children's names into your accounts/properties/kwsp nomination and such when one gets older so that they won't have to go to too much trouble to access them. I've even given my son user id/passwords to my accounts to make it even easier so that he can empty them when I'm gone (not that there's much....lol).

    1. Yes, the quality of the duck can be inconsistent, so I was lucky. indeed, but some people are cautious as there may be cases of impropriety. My late dad refused to have online banking and not even an ATM card!
