A Treat at Iku

I'm doing a Chris Au today. I had bento for lunch last Saturday hah..hah... Yeah, I worked last weekend and I deserve a treat whenever I do that. I might as well do a Mun too and give you a brief write up on my meal.

I went to Iku and settled for the Garlic Fried Rice bento set (RM15.80). The fried rice was good, very fragrant with "wok hei" and garlic flavor.

Short grain rice? And note that the bento box has seen better days.
But I was not too happy when I found this in the fried rice.

Crabstick! I don't like it but I ate it anyway. I don't like to waste food. The bento came with deep fried chicken fillet...

...and a simple salad.

It also came with a bowl of miso soup and green tea (there are 4 drinks you can choose from) but I didn't take a picture. And the best thing I have had to date at Iku is the Salmon Belly something something (RM16.80).

This is good stuff. It is excellent and I would happily have two servings. But I didn't because I didn't want to freak out the server. It's very small. Four dainty pieces of salmon belly sushi with a fabulous sauce.

The bento was nothing to shout about. Good enough but not fantastic. But the Salmon Belly something something is to die for. Yes, will be back to try other things but no more bento for me.

This one I love a lot!

  1. Morning Phong Hong.. Wah, early morning I "tarn hau sui" (swallow saliva) looking at the garlic fried rice already.. I think every Japanese restaurant serves very good potato salad and garlic fried rice, my personal opinion la.. I can have 2-3 bowls of the fried rice alone, haha.. I seldom see bento served with fried rice, usually is white rice.. And I would always order gyoza too, love them, can eat 20 pieces! Really..

  3. errr, Iku?? where is this place?? I saw the crabstick too, i hate crabstick and I think this alone sudah potong 50 markah!! this so-called "crab"stick is none other than fish and flour and colorings, don't see it as the expensive crab that they even wanted to hide such a "treasure" in their garlic fries rice?? haha, I find this amusing.. :D

    1. Iku is at Uptown Damansara. They also have another branch in Subang I think. They specialize in fusion Japanese food. The crabstick make the fried rice jatuh standard.

  4. sorry but I have to agree with you that the bento doesn't actually look attractive to me, I think ChrisAu will not approve this also, hehe.. so the Salmon Belly something something is nice?? oh, salmon belly sushi with sauce they are?? okay, I think I know what this could be.. but doesn't seem to have rice for the sushi?? I would say the topping looks good and probably goes very well with rice, hahaha!!! ooopsss, putting myself in a Chinese restaurant style.. xD

  10. Me no fancy crabsticks too, but like you, me eats them because me no want to waste food too. I think to me, the bento box is the putting off aspect. It is so cheap to get new ones in Daiso, why want to reuse the old and ugly looking ones?

  17. Hi Phong Hong,
Japanese Bento sets are my big kids' favourite (when they were much younger) during our weekend dine out. I was very contemplated to buy the jap lacquerware bento compartment to replicate some bento meals at home then (cost saving... hee hee) But I know it would become white elephant so shelved the idea.
Well, do pamper ourselves to enjoy great meals !

    1. Hi Karen! I find bentos very attractive as you get a little bit of this and a little bit of that. But seriously, to cook so many things for a meal at home? I think I'll pass and just go to the restaurant hah..hah...
