TNB Screwed Up My Day

OK. Maybe it's not entirely their fault. I awoke in the dead of night (more like wee hours of morning) feeling warm and uncomfortable. My air-conditioner had stopped running and my room was dark and deathly quiet.

It was then that I realized there was a power failure. There were two possibilities (1) my circuit breaker tripped or (2) the blackout affected the whole neighborhood.

So I got up, feeling drowsy and dizzy and grabbed hold of my  battery operated handheld light. This one.

These things are very handy during such times. Make sure you keep them within easy reach and most important of all where you stored them. You don't want to be groping in the dark and cursing away.

I took a peek through the window and noted that the whole row of houses in front of mine were dark. Usually they would leave at least one light on at the car porch.

Just to be on the safe side, I went downstairs to check my circuit breaker. It was fine. So I called TNB's careline center at 2:00am (that's 15454 by the way). My call got through quickly and I was informed that it would take an hour or two for their team to respond.

I went back to bed and could't sleep. But I finally did for about an hour. At 5:00am, still no power. I wished that the TNB board of directors could see my sour face right then.

I called the careline center again and was informed that the power failure was due to a tree branch that fell on the power cable. Depending on the severity of damage, it may take longer to restore power.

Life had to go on and to navigate my way in the bathroom, I used another battery operated light.

This one is great as it illuminates the room. Luckily I did not watch any horror movies prior to this or else I would be feeling really creepy.

It was only at 7:30am that power was restored. Due to lack of sleep, I was drowsy the whole day and developed a headache. But something in Damansara Uptown sort of cheered me up.

I was on my way to The Starling when I spotted this nice cluster of plants.

I took a closer look at those baubles hanging off the branches of the plant in the center.

Oh! Lovely!

So cute!

That really put a smile on my face. I managed to get a good night's sleep that evening. Hopefully no more blackouts occur anytime soon. Or I will selfie my black face and post it on TNB's FB page.

  4. How come your lahling didn't wake up to check instead and fan you to sleep with the kipas tangan?? Don't tell me he was playing mahjong elsewhere? Aha! I am just being nosy self.
I would suggest that you buy those small fans at pasar malams which connects to power banks! When no air con, these fans come handy and could lull you to sleep like a baby for 3-6 hours! Thank me for this brilliant idea.

The plants by road side could even cheer you up!! You are funny eh.
Merry Christmas Ah Hong Chee and did you bake any X'mas Log Cakes for me???? ~begging you on my knees~

  5. Hahaha! Kelakarlah you ni.

It happened to me once recently. Felt so hot in the middle of the night and of course when I looked out, the rest of my neighbourhood were pitch black. I tried to sleep but ended up playing game on my handphone as I couldn't sleep at all!

  7. The glass baubles with plants in them are so quaint! TNB did not act quickly enough but the real culprit is the tree branch that fell in the middle of the night! ;p

  11. what an unexpected place to find those terrarium-style kind of things! and so well done too! :) i get blackouts at my apartment maybe once or twice a year, but i figure it's still a vast improvement over decades past - back in the 80s, i remember there'd be power failures at least once a month in malacca that would last the entire night! :)
