Hi I'm PH. I am a Compulsive Eater

I was thinking, if there is such a thing as Alcoholics Anonymous, there should be a Compulsive Eaters Anonymous. And indeed there is! hah..hah.. In the UK you have Overeaters Annonymous and in New York you've got the Overeaters Anonymous for New York City. But what about Malaysia? Do we have a Malaysian chapter? Should I start one? muahahahaha!!!

So why am I talking about compulsive eating? Because I am a hardcore compulsive eater. I can sit down in front of the TV and munch my way through whatever snacks that are in the house. Which is why I seldom keep stock of crunchies and munchies at home or in my office.

But one fine Saturday morning, an ex-primary 6 classmate WhatsApp me from Village Park via our WhatsApp group. "I have something for you....come lah". I was at home "ponteng kerja" (playing truant) because I had to get my housework done. Had I known she would be near my office, I would have gone to work. I guess it was meant to be a surprise. And then my sweet friend sent me another message "I hantar almond snaps to your office" (I sent almond snaps to your office). I say!

This greeted me on Monday morning.

And this was inside.

Gosh! A bottle of noms! Apa lagi? (what else?) Cannot wait to taste it.

This thing is so, so good! Crunchy with nutty and buttery fragrance. It's a little bit on the sweet side for me but hey, sweet is good.

I kept taking them out bit by bit. OK, last round I tell myself. Must keep some to take home. But no. I kept going. I could not help myself. That's what compulsive eaters do. They eat and eat and eat. Until.....

Boh liao (no more). Not even the crumbs survived. And I didn't even share with my colleagues. Not even my partner. Mind you that was quite a big bottle. When I WhatsApp that photo, one ex-classmate remarked "Like critters, so fast finished". Critters indeed! A big one! hah..hah...hah...

So you see, keep alcohol away from an alcoholic and keep snacks away from a compulsive eater.

The end.

    1. Hi Louiz! This is the first time I ate these almond snaps. They are so good! I googled the recipe and found out that it uses Florenta flour. So I don't think I wanna make because I don't want to specially go and buy this flour. I just wait for people to give me heee..hee...

  4. Last time I bought those big packs of Lays with individual small packs inside. I thought this would help me control how much I eat. It didn't work. I opened up small pack after small pack after small pack until everything is gone! :(

And also there was once I bought a whole roasted chicken, planning for it to be 3 dinners, but in the end, it was finished in 3 hours over Netflix! :(

  5. Hi Phong Hong,

I have to admit that I can be a compulsive eater too... Well, it's all depending on my mood. Maybe the nutty snaps are too yummy! Not your fault!!!

  6. Oh dear, PH. Those almonds and sunflower seeds do attract me but not the sugar coating that binds it together. Next time, roast some almonds and sunflower seeds and put them in a jar....and snack on those instead....much healthier but still can snack! :D

    1. Kris, true it is much healthier to just eat the roasted nuts but....the almond snaps are really special. Given the two, I will still gravitate towards the snaps!

  7. haha.. so probably you are OCE lah, Obsessive Compulsive Eater, hehehe!! but i don't think you are really that compulsive, because given this jar of snacks to me, i will also be eating non-stop and then next thing i realise would be my hand dipping into an empty jar, hehehe!! it's like many times when i eat biscuits or cookies, especially those packet ones, i finished the whole thing - i mean, might as well, and don't leave any behind else it's "incomplete" and then easily basi if i didn't seal it properly.. :D

    1. The thing is, even though I felt full, I kept on munching. We are supposed to stop when we are full, right? But not me, I had to eat until I finished up everything. I was so full that I skipped dinner that night. It was also quite heaty. Sigh...

  8. so nice of your friend to make that and then send it over to you, and so you have been "ponteng" from work and because your friend was delivering that jar of snacks to you, you went back to work ah?? or rather, you went back to office to savor the snacks, muahahaha!! i can see almonds, pumpkin seeds and black sesame seeds.. wah, nice leh, i just love anything nuts, wahahaha, but i am no nuts wokay?? :D

    1. Yes, my friend is really nice. No lah, I only went to office on Monday hah..hah... I also love nuts. Let's just say we are both nuts over nuts!

  9. i wonder how many pieces are there inside that jar?? and after you habis all them, i wonder if you will be making it yourself, errr, i mean you felt guilty for not sharing with your colleagues or partner, so the next best thing you can do is to make some yourself and belanja them lah.. but make sure you make more, so that even if you "compulsively" eaten a lot, you still have some left to share.. :D

    1. I actually thought of making this myself but I found out that I have to buy Florenta flour. It's not cheap and comes in a big packet. So not really worth while for me to buy it. Besides I don't want to end up making and eating and eating!

  10. Hi Phong Hong, like reading your posts on the various food that you have tried and taken. Just remember that 'chiak si hock' then you won't feel guilty or what not at all....., Can blame you too cos' the snack looks tempting.....

    1. Hi Kimmy! OK, I like that "chiak si hock" hah..hah...Which means that I should have a lot of "hock". But the "hock" is in the form of fats around my belly :(

    2. Hahaha!, sorry typo error on the last line. I mean 'Can't blame you....' makes a lot of difference with the one word error.

  18. Wah, your friend is so sweet to drop them at your office for you. Lucky no one in your office gasak them since you are not around that day. Sometimes I am like that too so I do not keep any snacks around me, especially those sweet ones for fear of getting diabetes as it runs in my family.
