There is guilt written all over this post. Guilt for partaking in a guilty pleasure.
Louiz asked me what was the naughty thing that I was going to do here with bacon. "Naughty" means different things to different people. My naughty and your naughty is not the same. Your naughty is running away from home for 3 days. Or telling the kids there is no more Kit Kat in the house when you actually stashed a packet or two in your secret compartment in the fridge. Or telling your wife that you are watching your cholesterol level but you still go for Kari Kepala Ikan with your golfing buddies. For me, my naughty is BACON. Candied Bacon to be precise :)
Crispy, crunchy, sweet and salty. Krunch...krunch...krunch.... Eat one and you will reach out for more. I simply couldn't stop.
You want to know how to make these? Buy a packet (or two) of streaky bacon and maple syrup. Or honey because maple syrup is very costly. I used maple syrup just because I had some in the fridge. All you need to do is coat the bacon strips with maple syrup and bake it in the oven. Mine took 20 minutes to crisp up.
But be prepared to give the metal rack a good scrub once you are done. These candied bacon can be stored in an airtight container. For how many days? Don't ask me LOL!
There you have it. All 200g of bacon in all its glory.
Did you eat all that? Did you eat all that. PH? YOU ATE ALL THAT???? Tra...la...la...la...la....
Candied Bacon
Recipe source : Adapted from Paleo Dessert Obsession
Ingredients :
- 200g streaky bacon
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
Method :
1. Line a baking tray with aluminium foil and place a metal rack on top.
2. Pat dry the bacon strips and coat each strip evenly with maple syrup.
3. Place coated bacon strips on metal rack and bake at 180C for about 20 minutes.
Note : Watch the bacon when baking to avoid burning. I turn the rack at halftime for even baking.
I really dont think one ever need to store this in the container.... it will soon be disappear once out from the grill, right?
ReplyDeleteMel, you are right, No point preparing a container because the bacon will be all gone hah..hah...
DeleteGawd your recipe is so simple yet look SO SO SO delicious !!! Those sticky goodness, yummmzzz !! My naughty is taking sick leave from work, send both kids to the nursery as usual, and I go for my shopping/hair do, and after that, stay at home all afternoon watching Astro, then take a nap, then pickup the kids same time in the evening, not a second earlier.. Oh dear, I just made myself sound like a really really bad mom.. Your bad, sweetie, that's supposed to be my secret, now it's out, teehee..

DeleteI hate fat meat but the only one that I eat is from bacon, haha, I don't feel it oily or greasy probably because it's crispy or if not crispy then it's too thin to realised.. ah, look at your bacons, more lean meat than the fats, I like!!! and the glazing with maple syrup is sure making it look more sexy and taste more exotic.. haha!! this is a great snack for me~~ :p
