Mum has (almost) recovered from her recent misadventure and was able to come along to the nursing home. So come lunch time, we were back at our regular haunt.
It was my turn to call the shots and I ordered this Crispy Pork Belly (L), although I shouldn't since this is flour coated and deep fried. But I love this dish.
This is the usual Honey Pepper Abalone Mushroom (M) which looked very similar to the crispy pork belly.
For vegetables, I chose Garlic Fried Sweet Potato Leaves (L). We love this vegetable and anything stir fried with garlic and salt is a winner.
Meanwhile, I haven't posted one of our lunches many weeks ago.
This dish is not photogenic but it was yum yum - Yam with Kou Yuk. Oh! I love yam hee..hee... yup, carbs are so comforting. Haiz!
This Sambal Prawns (M) was not what I expected. It was just OK and I probably won't order this again.
We love our meals at Kar Hiong as the cooking is good (although some dishes that we ordered in the past were not to our liking), the prices reasonable and access is easy (which is important for mum).
Update : Kar Hiong needs to make an amendment to their menu.
The Dong Choi Steamed Carp looked the most appealing to me! I just went JB Malaysia yesterday.
ReplyDeleteOh, that's nice. Everything in JB must be cheap for you hee..hee..
DeleteYes! The food are cheap and affordable and I bought a POLO sling bag (RM49.90) and a mobile phone cover (RM25.90).
DeleteI love such dishes and the atmosphere felt very homely and warm to me.
ReplyDeleteI love it too :)
DeleteThose bits on the French Beans weren't look like Mui Choy, they are more like Choy Poh (preserved radish).
ReplyDeleteYes, cannot be mui choy and I bodoh-bodoh follow description on the menu LOL! I have corrected it, thanks for pointing out the error.
DeleteAh, the two dishes do look similar. Lol! 🤣
ReplyDeleteCan the dong choy carp fish dish be eaten without rice? Would it feel too salty? Just thinking should I go there to eat this dish without rice. Thanks in advance for your reply. 😊
Good to hear that your mom can go with you all to visit your father. 👍
Oh yes, the dong choy carp can be eaten without rice. The sauce is salty, so you just take the flesh and use the sauce sparingly.
DeleteThanks 😊
DeleteYou guys must be very good at picking out all the bones from the carp. If the fish is small, there'll be a lot of fine bones to pick out...but, yes, the fish is delicious and sweet. That's why I prefer to eat the bigger version, the song fish head instead. If you didn't say, I would have thought the crispy pork belly and the mushroom dish is one and the same. And yes, I love yam too (looks like the yam is cooked in a bowl from the 2 portions given). The sambal prawns look like normal stir-fried prawns. As for the french beans dish, that is choy poh, not mui choy...kekeke! ;) All 3 of your vege dishes, I love, love, love!
ReplyDeleteI am super careful when eating the carp because I am very scared of getting the bone stuck in my throat. It's quite a chore but worth the effort as I enjoy the fish. LOL about the french bean dish and I have made correction. It was stated as mui choy on the menu and I blur-blur follow hah..hah..hah..
DeleteAh, so you ordered V8 but they gave you V59 (the pic needs to be swapped)...lol.
DeleteHaiz. LOL!
