Last Saturday, on our way out from the nursing home, my brother asked me if we should go to Kar Hiong or some place else.
I told him that I was open to anything. So my brother said, OK, we go elsewhere - your blog like very stale already lah, he joked hah...hah...hah...
And there we were at Yan Wo Seafood Restaurant, Aman Suria Damansara.
It's a typical Chinese restaurant just like Kar Hiong. We noticed there was a box of Premiere tissue on every table.
After looking through the menu, these were the dishes we ordered.
My brother was keen on this Thai Style Braised Pork Knuckle (S - RM58.00). The pork knuckle was braised in aromatic spices until tender and falling off the bone. It was meaty and fatty and enjoyed all around though it was not my favorite.
This was my choice, Siakap Deep Fried in Tiga Rasa (RM48.00). The fish was fried until even the bones were crispy. The kitchen was very generous with the sweet, salty and spicy sauce. Very appetizing!
For vegetables we had this Claypot Water Spinach with Dried Shrimps (S - RM20.00) - a fancy name for kangkung belacan. What was interesting was there was a generous sprinkling of pork cracklings (chee yau char) in this dish.
Another dish was Belacan Green Bean (S - RM26.00) (because another veggie we wanted was not available) which had generous sambal and pork cracklings. These people love their pork cracklings and so do we hee...hee...
So that was our four dishes. We enjoyed our first visit to Yan Wo Seafood Restaurant. The cooking is good and portion sizes were generous.
Prices are reasonable and this lunch cost RM163.00 [no service charge and no service tax, inclusive of one pot of tea (RM6.00) and two rice (RM5.00)].
While we were there we realized that our table didn't have a lazy Susan. LOL! So we took note that next time we must seat at a table with that contraption to make it easier for eveyone to easily reach the dishes on the table.
A revisit is imminent!
Good food and good price ๐ ๐ only two bowls ๐ of rice so I guess you didn't eat rice?
ReplyDeleteThat's right. No rice for me.
DeleteGot fish, got pork and two veggies. Good choices and a balanced meal. Variety is the spice of life so it is good you found another place which you will revisit
ReplyDeleteIt was a nice change. In time we will explore other restaurants.

I thought you would like the fatty pork knuckle. There's a Yan Wo branch near me too but my friend commented that the food just so so...
ReplyDeleteThe taste wasn't that exciting to me. We will try other dishes on next visit.
DeleteI've had kangkong belacan with addition of chee yau char too...and I thought it worked extremely well (but not with green beans lah). I don't think everything can be saved by pork lard...kekeke! ;D P/S: I think the lazy susan is only for tables that seat 8-10 people. I've never sat in a table meant for 3-4 that have a lazy susan coz the table is too small (we'd be too lazy to stretch a little if there's a lazy susan....haha).
ReplyDeleteThe table that we sat ay was the same size as the one in my second last photo and I think they cleared the table prior to our visit and forgot to put back the lazy Susan hah..hah... At Kar Hiong we also seat at a bigger table instead at the smaller ones which is a bit cramped for us.
