Beef Offal

After a good experience at Sheung Wan Noodle House, I returned on my own.

I was there around 12:00pm and there were already a few customers enjoying their lunch.

I ordered the Kumquat Lemon Honey (cold) because I was very thirsty. The lady boss assured me that the drink was not too sweet. It was a very nice thirst quencher,

I already set my mind on the Beef Offal after enjoying the Beef Brisket and Beef Tendon.

On the menu, the description of the Beef Offal was - Honeycomb, Beef Small Intestine, Big Intestine, Beef Spleen.

These were the condiments that were brought to my table. There was light soy sauce, pickled green chilies and chili oil. I don't know what's in the other bottle.

There you go, my bubbling pot of Beef Offal. The lady boss offered to serve me a small portion, but no, I wanted the full blown serving hah...hah...

Ooooo... I was very excited to see the honeycomb. And the big ass beef intestines, which I have never eaten before.

As I dug into the pot, to my dismay, I found beef meatballs. Ugh!

There was no mention of meatballs in the menu and no, there was no spleen. In future, I'll check if they could exchange the meatballs for other parts.

I enjoyed the honeycomb and also the intestines. But I have to warn you that the intestines are very fatty. I don't have a problem with that but some people may find it cloying.

I ate this with the pickled green chilies and my lemon drink helped to cut through the greasiness.

The beef meatballs were not too bad as these are better ones that I have eaten. They were flavorful from soaking up the beefy/spice flavors from the broth. But I prefer not to eat them as they contain starch.

I was very satisfied with my meal and it was so filling that I did not need to eat dinner.

Well, anytime I return to Sheung Wan Noodle House, I will only eat either the Beef Brisket and Beef Tendon or the Beef Offal (but will request to exchange the balls for something else).

  1. Thank you for your 2nd review. They really should list the beef balls in the menu for this dish. Now with your 2nd review , I can't wait to try both these dishes. 😋 🤤 I have eaten fatty intestines before but I forgot from which shop.

    1. I reckon because they don't have spleen, they substituted with the balls. Next time I have to check before I order. Hope you get to try soon!

  2. Offal is generally means internal organs right? Why beef balls were included? I think the restaurant should inform the customer when there is any changes of ingredients which is different with the menu. >_<

    1. Yes, internal organs. So beef balls don't qualify hah..hah... I agree, they should have informed me that they were serving balls instead of spleen.

  3. Very scary to look at the honeycomb. I have trypophobia, fear of holes phobia.

    1. I have the same phobia (though to a lesser degree) and the hairs on my arm will stand up when I see something with many tiny holes all over the surface. But the honeycomb did not have the same effect on me.

  4. That's the very reason why I don't eat large (pork) intestines either (even though I love innards) as they're similarly fatty on the inside (that shot of the inside looks disgusting to me....wahahahaha).

    1. Truth be told, I did not expect the intestines to be so full of fat. Luckily I am not squeamish when it comes to fat or else I would not have been able to eat!
