This reset has been good and I now value this way of eating even more. A clear mind and a calm demeanor is an asset as well as the feeling of being alive and awake.
Which helped a lot Monday when my brother and I accompanied our mother to the emergency room.
Mum had a fall last weekend but did not immediately want to go to the hospital, preferring to wait and see. Many people try to avoid the hospital which is understandable.
Long story short, she experienced pain in her lower back and had difficulty getting in and out of bed and from standing and sitting position. Her hand was also swollen and painful. Mum is tough, in spite of all that she can still walk and climb up and down the stairs.
So Monday, I suggested that we go to the hospital to rule out fractures. And there we were.
We spent 4 hours in total at the emergency room and consultation with the hand surgeon. Mum did not have any fracture on her backbone (thank God!) but she fractured a finger.
She chose not to undergo surgery and the hand surgeon did say that operating on a senior patient does carry risks. Mum will be 83 this year. So her finger was put in a cast to set the bone.
There will be a follow up next week.
In spite of the long wait, my brother was in good humor.

Surgery for seniors is indeed a risk, especially if they require anesthesia! Your mother is a lovely lady! Please give your mother a hug for me!
ReplyDeleteI like the quote and the meat looks so tasty!
You are so sweet, Linda! Mum is on the mend.
DeleteMy neighbourhood coffeeshop elderly uncle had a fall last night too (coincidentally) and it left a long scar on his head. I felt heart pain looking at his scar and his wrinkled face so I had a short chit chat with him to give him comfort and give him gentle reminders. Thank God his fall is over and medications such as panadols to ease any pain and antibiotics to treat any infection are given. It is common for elderly to have falls due to age, forgetfulness, carelessness, poor vision and lesser agility. By the way, I am having roasted pork belly (with tofu and veggies) for my lunch today. It is better to go without surgery as it puts seniors at risk but good that your mom is being cared for by you and your brother. Hope this will pass and all will be well soon. Your mom looks so cute. The quote is very encouraging. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYes, seniors have a tendency to fall. Pity the uncle and you are so sweet to take time to chit chat with him. Mum is on the mend and she will have a full recovery.
DeleteThe elderly tends to be more prone to falls and have to be extra careful...but glad to hear that your mom is alright without having to undergo surgery. I too suffered from a trigger finger for years and my doctor told me that surgery would fix it. I chose not to do it (out of fear of pain...lol) and people told me it can't get better on its own. Well, the initial years I couldn't even bend my middle finger at all, it was rather uncomfortable with slight pain if I tried to do it but glad to say I can now finally bend it fully (though I still feel a bit of resistance) after (I think) about 3 years. I've proven my doctor and people wrong that it can get better on its own...lol! ;D
ReplyDeleteAlso very happy to hear that you feel a lot better after your diet reset. Actually what we put into our bodies really does matter. I was unwell for 3 weeks and so was eating mainly soups & porridge (as in healthy food)...and when I took my fasting sugar reading this morning, it was one of the best readings I've had...hehe! ;)
Doctors tend to recommend surgery and like you, I would have resisted and preferred a non-invasive treatment. I am glad that you didn't listen to the doctor and your finger is now (almost) normal. Ah, soups and porridge are good (though I don't like porridge LOL!) and naturally your blood sugar would be good on such a healthy diet. Good for you!
DeleteYa I can understand not wanting to go to hospital. May your mom have a full recovery ๐
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your reset is going well ๐ช
Thank you, mum is on the mend!
