A Treat for Me@Epicuro

Last weekend I went back to work. I actually enjoy working weekends because there is minimal or no disturbance  and I can concentrate and get my work done a lot more efficiently. And I was actually feeling pretty happy. That's when I decided to go to Youtube and listen to songs while going about my chores. I found some bands that I used to love. Like EZO, the now defunct Japanese rock band. I cranked up the volume because there was only one other person at the far end of the office.

That certainly lifted my mood. I was hungry at 11:30am because I did not have breakfast. I usually skip breakfast on weekends. Why? No particular reason. As motivation to work (not that I needed any as I was quite jolly, must be the songs) I decided to give myself a lunch treat. Where else but at Epicuro. Again.

I walked in before 12:00pm and the place was already bustling with activity and filled with loud chatter. This is one popular place. I waited for a short while before the server noticed me. While waiting to be seated, I looked at the dessert board. The specials for the day were the White Chocolate Mousse with Blueberries and Waffles with Ice-Cream (or something like that). I was shown to a small table that seats 2.

I ordered the Walnuts and Almond Salad (RM15.90). See the shaved cheese on top? I don't like cheese so I just mixed it all up so that I couldn't taste the cheese hee..hee.. This salad has candied walnuts and toasted almonds so there's some crunch. Very nice but it was slightly underdressed for me. I could use a bit more dressing. Maybe my tastebuds in not so sensitive due to my stronger tasting homemade garlicky dressings. But I enjoyed the salad.

Next up is my favourite, the Lamb Shank (RM39.90). But I was a little disappointed because of the very scant serving of carrots and gravy. Usually there is more than that.

And most glaring was the absence of the cauliflower mash that is usually at the bottom of the meat. I have had this Lamb Shank many times before so I know how it is served.

Digging in, I found very thin traces of the mash (or was it cream) and I was left wanting. Sigh.... Maybe the restaurant couldn't get any cauliflower. I have not been successful myself at buying cauliflower as they are already speckled with brown spots when I get to them at the supermarket.

Once I cleaned my plate, the White Chocolate Mousse played on my mind. Ah...might as well. I mean I'm giving myself a treat and what's a treat without dessert? So here it is, the White Chocolate Mousse with Blueberries served in a tall wine glass (RM12.90). It was a very small serving and not too heavy on my tummy.

I wasn't sure if I should dig at the chocolate decoration on the plate. After all I paid RM12.90 for this whole lot. But I didn't want to look like a jakun, so I left it alone :)

It was sweet and I loved the feel of the blueberries popping in my mouth as I chomped on them together with the mousse. There are digestive biscuits in the mousse, and some are sprinkled on top.

What can I say? It was a lovely dessert though a bit sweet for my tastebuds.

This lunch cost me RM75.55. You see, I don't spend money on designer clothes or bags or shoes. But I am prepared to spend on good food and I think a treat like this once in blue moon is good for the soul, don't you think so? That should motivate me to work harder so that I can afford these treats more often, eh? Ah, the beauty of financial independence!

  1. Yes, we should treat ourselves to good food once in a while. But, money aside, did you eat that salad, lamb shank and chocolate mousse all by yourself? That lamb shank alone is enough to 'kill' me, I think :D

  21. I thought I was the only weirdo who often skipped breakfasts for no reasons. I was told it is very bad to skip breakfast instead of lunch or dinner.
Your whole meal orders are my liking. We can have parties anytime.

    1. A party at Epicuro would be awesome. They do host private functions. Once me and my partner went there when the place was booked. The host was very kind and he let us have our meal since the party was still not in full swing.
