A Treat for Me Again

I have not been baking or cooking very much lately because I am putting in extra hours in the office on Saturdays. It is the best day to work and I am at my most productive. Besides Chinese New Year is coming and I am looking forwards to the long break. It is worth putting in the extra effort as the rewards are manifold. Imagine spending one whole week gardening! Yeah!

As usual, if I work then I have to eat out. So I might as well give myself a good meal. I don't have to tell you where I went because you could probably tell.

I was very hungry at around 11:00am. So off I went to my favourite place around 11:30am. I was thinking of having the big breakfast from the brunch menu and looking forwards to some sinful bacon.

As usual, the place was almost full. The two servers looked very harassed especially the younger one. I stood by the door behind a couple. On my left was the bar which sits 5 people in a row. A lady was seated at the far end and she was hollering at the top of her voice to get the servers' attention "HELLLO!! HELLLO!! EXCUSE ME!! HELLLO!! HELLLO!!" She was very loud. The visibly annoyed server approached her with a forced smile. After having a word with the the server, she proceeded to tell the server how to utilise the space behind her to place more seatings hah..hah...

Anyway, I got seated at the bar and I made sure not to sit too close to the loud lady. LOL! Shortly after I placed my orders, the server came over to offer me a better seat. You see, it pays to be polite to the wait staff.

Generous shavings of Parmesan cheese.

My first order was a Caeser Salad. This time I opted for chicken instead of bacon and egg. It looks pretty good doesn't it? There was more dressing and more Parmesan cheese this time. I found the cheese tolerable and overall I enjoyed the salad very much. It was quite filling due to the chicken but still not enough to fill my tank :)

Next came the Pork Chops. Wow! It was two generous pieces of pork chops smothered with a creamy mushroom sauce. When I placed my order, I requested for the potato salad to be replaced with something else. I am on carb depletion and I couldn't take carbs that day. The server suggested coleslaw and I was happy with that.

Two thick slabs of pork chops. It is best to share if you are a small eater. But Phong Hong's stomach is XXL size and can accomodate this. Mou man thai!

But I noticed that the potato salad was on the plate with no coleslaw in sight. Hmmm...either she had forgotten or the kitchen did. I didn't complain as it was no big deal. I'll just skip the potato salad. Shortly after, the server came back with a small bowl of coleslaw and apologised about the potato salad. I told her it was alright and not to worry. Well, they did remember after all!

Now back to the lovely chops. My partner ordered this previously and I had tasted a bit. I remember being impressed as it was very tasty. And my order did not disappoint. The pork chops, though not as tender as I would have preferred, was juicy enough and well seasoned.

This was how it was served when I went there again
on another day with my partner.

The creamy sauce had bacon in it and what can I say? It was delicious. Really good. It came with a side of salad and a drizzle of balsamic dressing. I gave the potato salad a few pokes and discovered bacon in them. So I did what any bacon lover would do, I dug out the bacon and ate them hee..hee... The coleslaw was ordinary but nice enough.

The dessert of the day was the same as last time - White Chocolate Mousse with Blueberries. I did not have any due to my carb depletion plan. No worries because Sunday is my re-feed where I get my dose of carbs before going low carb again on Monday.

The damage was RM54.80, Totally worth it on account of the outstanding pork chops. This is part of the thrill of working Saturdays!

  1. ah yes, it is very productive when you are working in the office on a non-working day, as there is no interruptions.. also you will want to quickly finish things up so you can leave early and hence you become extra efficient.. and if there's no one in the office, just blast your speaker with some music and sing along, it gets your mind clear and going with more completion of work!!!

    1. Louiz, very funny your comment didn't appear in my email. Anyway, the pork chop gravy was very good, In fact not enough gravy hah..hah... I don't think there is cheese in the gravy, only cream and has a good bacon taste and smell. Very sedap!

  3. LOL at the very loud lady, I can imagine that.. loud and also annoying but pity the staff who got to bear with her!! anyway, there's no need to be loud unless the staff are not doing their job nicely and being rude.. else being polite to them even when they are busy, you get extras from them like PH did.. now I wonder if the kitchen crew did anything "extra" on the loud lady's dishes when they found her so irritating??? muahahaha.. lesson one: never be rude to waiters, as you can't see what's happening in the kitchen!!! xD

    1. I totally agree! We should be understanding to the staff as it was an extremely busy day. They were nice and polite and we should treat them the same way.

  5. What the hell is carb depletion? Is it actually a term or something you just coined? :D

Why you show me pork chop? Now I need to go hunt for some too! :(

    1. Carb depletion is a term used in a fat loss programme called Macro Patterning. It goes on for only 6 days where you actively avoid carbs to make your body burn fat. Thereafter you basically have your carb up and carb down days followed by a cheat day once a week. I hope it works hah..hah...

  6. I presume this is your favourite place (Epicuro)? I would love the pork chops too but the white creamy sauce is too heavy for me...is there cheese in it or just cream?

    1. You got it right, Kris! The white sauce is just cream and has a nice bacon flavour. It is really good and quite a big portion.
