Satay King

Yesterday I suddenly had a craving for satay. The last time I had satay was back in 2019 and it was not a good experience. That put me off satay for a while (four years!)

I checked Grabfood and settled on Satay King because it was the only one open. The other satay joints were only available on 03-07-2023.

These days I can eat at the most 20 sticks of satay. In fact 10 sticks is just nice. But I was greedy. I selected the Ayam 10 + Daging 10 + Kambing 5. I also requested for no nasi impit. I have never liked nasi impit/ketupat ever since I was young.

Again, I did a scheduled order and my order arrived early, just before 12pm.

Very simple packaging. I put newspapers on my dining table because when I collected the delivery, the bottom of the plastic bag was oily.

There you go, my satay feast! As you can see, they are very stingy with the red onions. I love raw onions with satay. But woe is me, due to my carnivore way of eating, I don't have red onions in my pantry. Bah!

The gravy is runny but flavorful, though not as good as the sauce served at our regular satay stall in Kuala Terengganu. I love thick satay sauce with loads of peanuts.

As for the satay, it was very good. What I love is that the meat is moist and tender (the beef and lamb were superb) and you will find chicken skin and some beef fat among the meat. This adds on to the flavor and texture.

So Satay King will be my go to for satay when the craving hits. But I also want to try out the other satay outlets and see how they fare.

That morning I cleaned my air fryer.

You need to turn it upside down in order to clean the top part where the heating element is.

It is not a pretty sight. This to me is the down side of an air fryer. You need to be diligent and do cleaning right from day one or else you will end up collecting a lot of grease and grime which will be difficult to remove.

You can't reach all the nooks and crannies. So I just do the best that I can.

No dinner that evening as I was very stuffed from 25 sticks of satay. This is the first time in many months that I can do OMAD. I hope to get my OMAD mojo back.

  1. Wah, tasty 😋🤤 I like to eat satay and also the ketupat rice. Good that you don't like the nasi himpit so you can eat only the meat and be carb free.

    1. There is still some carbs from the sugars in the marinade and sauce but I ignore that LOL!

  2. Thanks for showing the way to clean air fryer. Definitely not for me since I am so lazy.

    1. Since you don't cook, it won't be worth it to buy an air fryer. Save money! LOL!

  3. Like you, I also want more onions and not only that, I like lots of cucumber to go with them too. Sauce must be thick and filled with peanut as well.... hahaha...

  4. I always ordered the Kajang Satay located directly opposite Starling Mall's as my contribution for pot luck gatherings. Their meats were always big and came with thick gravy sauce. My guests always loved them to heavens.

    1. I lost confidence in Satay Kajang based on my last visit there. Maybe I should check them out again to see if they improved.

    2. No ketupat for me because I don't like it. Besides I don't want to eat carbohydrates.

  6. I don't like to eat raw onions with salad or anything else...but with satay, it's a different story...probably coz there's a sauce. Also, more cucumbers please. I can eat, at most 10 sticks. I can see why you don't like nasi impit or ketupat coz they taste so bland. If it's ketupat, I might eat 1/4 or 1/2 but I hate those nasi impit (though it's still the same thing...rice), I just don't like them wrapped in plastic like that...so lazy to weave the ketupat casing from palm leaves (it's like having food served on a banana leave for BLR...lol). P/S: Thanks for showing how dirty an air fryer can get so that we'll be diligent in cleaning it...mine does not look like that....yet! Wahahahaha!

    1. Somehow the raw onions enhances the taste of the satay and sauce, that's how it is for me. Next time must buy some onions first before ordering the satay hee..hee.. As long as you clean your air fryer after every use, especially when air frying meat, your air fryer will be clean, not like mine LOL!

  7. I haven't had beef and lamb satay for long time as my family always goes for non halal satay if we crave for the delicacy.
