Gerobak Sate Via Grabfood

After having very good satay from Satay King and not-so-good satay from Sate Barokah Ibu Nur, I wanted to try Gerobak Sate. This I was pretty sure is local style satay.

This satay stall is located inside Restoran OK, Taman Tun Dr Ismail (very near me).

The satay comes in sets with satay sauce, nasi impit and cucumbers/red onions.

I opted for the set of 10 sticks of chicken satay with an option to add another 5 sticks of either chicken, beef or lamb. I chose beef. The satay came packed in a rectangular box accompanied by a bag of satay sauce, one nasi impit (although I requested to omit) and a bag of sliced cucumbers/red onions.

This first thing that hit me even before I opened the box was the wonderful aroma of the satay. It reminded me of my family's favorite satay in Kuala Terengganu. I transferred the satay to a plate and poured the sauce into a small bowl.

Whenever I eat satay, I love the drippings which is absolutely delicious. So as not to waste, I poured it on the satay.

I anticipated tasting the peanut sauce and was hopeful that it would taste like (or as close to) the one in Kuala Terengganu.

Meanwhile someone was hoping to get a piece of the action. Sorry, Girl. You cannot eat satay.

The satay was spot on. Truly delicious and was very similar in taste to the one from my hometown. The beef satay was tender and overall both the chicken and beef were juicy and very well marinated. I just wonder why the chicken satay is so orangey in color.

And now the sauce. I am happy to report that it was much thicker than the Satay King sauce but alas not quite what I had hoped BUT it was very much to my liking.

I would say that it is somewhat 80% similar to my gold standard. I liked it so much that I separated the last three sticks of satay and dropped the meat into the sauce. Then I ate everything up with a spoon. It was that good. Another thing I have seen people do is eat satay sauce with toast. I have never done that before.

With that, I will say that it looks like I have found my new favorite satay. Woohoo!!

  1. I have been eating this satay from Ok Restaurant for many years. I suspect this stall has changed seller once. It is near you and even nearer to me!
My sister and hubby frequents this restaurant because the mat Salleh hubby likes their alfresco dining style. Parking is terrible in that area so better order delivery for your satay. I can deliver to you too. Woohoo!!!!

  3. Aha! There's nasi impit! I love that, dipped in the satay sauce. Too bad I have been advised to stay off red meat plus I am not fond of chicken satay (nor pork) so no more satay for me. Sobsss!!!

  6. I've seen satay like that before...orangy in colour (which makes me skeptical what marinade they use to make it that colour as it doesn't look natural so it worries me). I much prefer satay that looks like natural chicken meat...lol. Haha, I do that too, pour the drippings over the satay once unpacked. I also separate out the meat from my satay and drop it into the sauce and eat it with a spoon. We not only like similar food, we also seem to have similar eating habits...wuahahahaha! :D

  7. Haha, the way how Kris eats her Satay, I never did, perhaps I can try it next time when I tapao the satay. Since you're so into satay now, I hope you will have chance to try my favourite pork satay here, but I don't think they are in food delivery platform. :(
