Past Eats : Shashuka!

This eat happened February 2023. At the time, I was still steady on carnivore and from time to time I allowed myself "normal" food ie foods that contain carbohydrates.

I know some people laugh at me for eating a meat-only diet. They think I am ridiculous (rolling eyes and all) and perhaps they are waiting for me to report that I have heart disease or cancer.

Sure, that could happen, not because of my current way of eating but due to the damage I did to myself since childhood until the time before I started the carnivore diet. Cancer and cardiovascular disease don't develop overnight. It takes years of assault to the body to initiate pathology.

I ate a lot of rice, bread, cakes, cookies, potato chips, ice cream, chocolate, sweets and deep fried foods in addition to meat, fats/oils and loads of vegetables. The vegetables were not an issue for me. Honestly, I still love vegetables. I used to be overweight, depressed and anxious. Not anymore.

The Red Kettle @ The Starling is one of my favorite places to go have my (naughty) meals. Sure, they are expensive. But I enjoy the food here and besides, I don't visit everyday.

On that day I chose to try the Shashuka. I have cooked Shashuka before here and that was quite a long time ago. There is an option to add either grilled chicken or pork sausage.

Besides the eggs baked in a tomato based stew, there were olives, onions, garlic, chickpeas and eggplants in the cast iron pan.

I chose to add a pork sausage instead of grilled chicken.

Ah, the carbs! There were 4 pieces of toast, wonderful to dunk into the savory Shashuka

This was really good, according to me of course. I would order this again on my carbs days for sure.

I sapu the Shashuka clean!

  4. Why do you think people laugh at you or think you're ridiculous for eating an all meat diet. Have that been expressed to you before? If you're confident in your choice, you shouldn't be bothered with what people think, my dear. But like you said, cancer and cardiovascular disease don't develop overnight. It takes years of assault on our bodies and what your all-meat diet does to your body, you will also not see it in your yearly check-ups (from now) until much later. I guess you just have to believe it's the right choice...and it's your choice. As you know, I'm not a believer or supporter of an all-meat diet...but I'm certainly a supporter (100%) of cutting off or limiting carbs. P/S: That shashuka is the perfect dipping vehicle for bread! ;)

    1. Well, not in the comments for sure. But there are some people not from immediate family and I guess I should just ignore them. I have been meaning to do a full medical check up especially the CAC score.

Shashuka without the bread will not be as enjoyable. LOL!

  5. Ah, I have eaten shashuka at Red Bean Cafe. I mixed the runny yolk into the dish with the hope that it will get cooked as I am afraid to eat runny yolk. As long as you are happy and feel tip top with eating all meat, I don't think it is anyone's business unless they are your parents who are worried about you but I think you mentioned before that your parents support your decision.

    1. My immediate family is very supportive and I am grateful for that. I love runny yolk. One of my brothers won't eat runny yolk.

  6. I wonder if I could finish it all by myself without sharing. Used to be big eater when younger but now I can't eat much. I cut down on my carbohydrate. Used to eat a big bowl of rice but now no more. Now big portion of meat more. Veggie, I still take but I don't eat much, the same as when I was younger.
