Back To Basics : Chap Fan No Rice

Yesterday I went back to my regular chap fan shop after a very long hiatus.

The reason why I avoided the chap fan shop is because, although I can go with no rice, the proteins are not "clean" in the sense that they are mostly (battered and) deep fried and coated in (sweet) sauces.

But once in a while, I don't see the harm in indulging in chap fan dishes. We have to be practical, right? So that's what I had - sweet and sour pork, marmite chicken and sweet potato leaves. It was nice but I did not enjoy it as much as I used to.

At The Starling I went to check out a new pet store. I passed by Toy World where I saw their choo choo train parked outside. I hardly see kids riding this (even at weekends) and I suppose kids these days aren't thrilled by a ride at the mall.

Pets Naturale opened very recently.

The first thing I saw was this menagerie of small animals, hamsters, mice and such.

Then I saw this lonesome handsome boy.

Hello leng chai!

Apparently his name is Hunter and he is a Mainecoon. Not for sale it seems and works for the store hah..hah...

Then I saw this one who refused to look up at me. Alexander is his name and he is a Ragdoll. Price - a heart stopping RM8,888.00. Sorry boy. Bye!

Then I saw a row of cages housing these other (maybe cheaper as in less than RM8K?) feline varieties.

I actually felt sad looking at these kitties. They are holed up in captivity and their litter boxes are not even cleaned regularly.

Auwwww.... I also have a soft spot for doggies.

Look at that cutie pie!

So adorable!

Gah!

Alolo!

Before my heart melted into a heap and my brain dysfunctions (you know, like conjuring silly ideas of getting a doggie and all), I quickly walked away.

Already with 3 cats, kepala pusing, a doggie added will lagi give me stress. At least with the 3 kitties, I can just leave them alone and they know how to go pangsai. As for doggie, I will have to take the sweetie pie for walks. Where got time?

Then I chanced upon these bunnies. Bunnies and rabbits they breed like crazy. Gestation period is one month+ Imagine that.

And these colorful birdies and I think these are called parakeets. I don't know how to appreciate birds as pets. I prefer a pet that I can cuddle.

Like this.

Girl! Who is mommy's baby???

Me-ow!

I saw these fishes and this one I lagi cannot appreciate. Besides, you need to clean the aquarium regularly or else you can't even see the fish.

Alas, they don't sell this particular pet hee..hee..

Dinner was my blueks! soup.

  1. I would agree with you about the Chinese chap fan places that "they are mostly (battered and) deep fried and coated in (sweet) sauces". I wonder why they do that - if not eaten hot from the wok, it would have tuirned soft and soggy - not nice at all anymore. That is why I would much sooner go for the Malay nasi campur., They do not do that...and no msg overload too!

    1. Those dishes are popular I guess and some customers don't mind. I am quite ok with the dishes even if cold and a bit soggy. I love nasi campur but there is nasi campur restaurant near my office. The ones that used to be there already moved or closed.

  3. I see Hunter has to do his job of advertising his cage/home to potential buyers...lol. What's with the tree...not for the benefit of the cat as it's not made for climbing...for the owner to decorate come festive season? That is quite an "atas" home...you can get that and house all your 3 cats in there and be worry-free of them roaming out on the streets at night. I actually don't mind putting them in lokap as long as the cage is spacious enough (one of my neighbours has 4 cats housed in a cage in his porch 24/7) for safety and peace of mind rather than the possibility of danger. I also like dogs and fish...but too much work (as you've pointed out). No like bunnies or birds...hah..hah.

    1. I don' t think my 3 girls would like to stay locked up in an enclosure like that. They would be miserable since they are so used to roaming around the taman. Maybe if they were housed like that since kitten days, they might accept it. So far, touch wood, they are OK and hope it stays that way. I wonder if this atas pet shop can stay in business. Everything there is so pricey!

  4. I agree that most dishes at the mixed rice shops are too sweet. If we dine at Tai Thong, Overseas or Kam Lun Tai restaurants, their dishes are very good and nothing too sweet. It confused me a while about the foreign chefs at the mixed rice shops.

I had lunch at Tuk Tuk Thai today and adjourned to the same pet shop to look at all the puppies. Suddenly I became emo and wanted to cry at their pitiful sights. I pray that they won't need to reincarnate to be animals again.

I better save your pretty faces in my phone so that I will not mistaken the Leng Lui when I shout out for Daisy PH at Starling Mall. Wakakakaka

Your leftover blueks soup turned into kiam chai boey! My favourite la.

    1. There used to be one chap fan shop at Uptown (same row as Baskin Robbins) that advertised 100 dishes daily. Their cooking was betul-betul restaurant style but sadly when the Uptown management decided to to a facelift, the road in front of their shop was so difficult to access. Then their business kaput. That was way before the pandemic.

I wonder if we will bump into each other at Starling. I know I can recognize you. LOL!

    2. I remember that popular chap fan shop near Baskin Robbins. I couldn't believe that they could close down. Sigh!

  5. Definitely can't see the fishes as they will die!! Lol. I hate cleaning aquarium, I did that as a child. The pet shop reminded me of the one in Mid Valley. On the top floor, same level with food court. Wonder if it still there. I used to enjoy going in, browsing through the pets. But may, I don't keep pets as it is a responsibility to take care of them. You have 3 cats at home, I have 3 "monkeys" at home as I call my kids when they were younger. Lol.
