Banana Ice Cream

This ice-cream is made from frozen bananas and mixed berries. Ladies and gentlemen, please meet my new toy, the Yonanas frozen fruit ice-cream maker.

I never meant to buy this device and it's all my auntie's fault. It was 4 or 5 years ago I think, when we went strolling into Cold Storage. A sales promoter was doing a demo on this Yonanas machine.

Frozen bananas and mixed berries ice-cream.

My auntie and I became very kaypoh (busybody) and approached the booth. The saleslady was more than happy to entertain these two potential victims. She let us try the frozen banana ice-cream.

Served with ganache and crushed Fererro Rocher chocolate.

Mmmm..!!! Nice! It tasted just like regular ice-cream and it was unbelievable that this was made from bananas. Then she let us try the frozen pineapple ice-cream. Also very good!

Mmmmm.....nice!

The saleslady told us that the promotion for the Yonanas machine was only for one day only and asked if we were interested to purchase one. I was hesitant. I know myself too well. I have many kitchen devices in my house which are sitting inside my cupboards, never to see daylight again.

Served with salted caramel.

My auntie was also considering the machine but she was smarter. "Buy lah, buy lah", she urged me. That's what my auntie likes to do. She encourages other people to spend but she keeps her money safely in her pocket.

In a moment of weakness, I bought the Yonanas machine. Then my auntie went on and on about how everyone will now get to eat frozen banana ice-cream when they visit my home. Yeah, right.

From the moment I brought the machine home until last weekend, it sat in my cupboard, frozen in time. I had no motivation whatsoever to haul it out from hibernation. None at all. In spite of having paid more than RM200 for this device. Cilaka!

Well, thanks to this month's Little Thumbs Up event, I finally froze some bananas and made this Banana Ice Cream. Actually, you don't need this device to make banana ice-cream. You can refer to Esther's post on how to do it in a blender. So, will I use the Yonanas machine again? Errr.....

  1. Haha, very funny la you.. And yes, I agree with you, they will ask us to buy buy buy, and then keep their money safe in their pocket, wahahaha.. Eh, one thing about this kinda sales promotion thingy right, they will say today is thr last day liao, like end of the world like that, but then, after 1-2 months, you see the promotion again, and with price reduction lagi leh.. This was what happened to my Shimono vacuum machine..
Anyway, yummzzz, your homemade ice cream looks so so good, and it's only made from bananas.. I read in some mommy forum, they freeze bananas only, and they mashed the frozen bananas, that's all.. I made popsicles before, using bananas, yogurt and some icing sugar.. Nice jugak.. But your one, aiyoyo, NICER 100x, I want tor equest for peanut butter, chocolate chips banana ice cream next time!

  3. Hi Phong Hong, Had been eyeing on this baby for quite sometime too. Tapi other babies come first. This one still frozen in my list, thinking the same thing as you. If I were to buy, perhaps I will use only once and this fella will stay frozen in the cupboard and to make things worst, it might be forgotten! Huhuhuhu.....

And I am like your aunty too... buy la buy la, it's good,, bla bla bla... and I ended up being the last person to buy, IF I BUY la... hahaha....

Since you have this baby already, I am curious about one thing. Is it easy to clean this baby?

P/s : Don't goreng me to buy okay. I have loads of not-been-used gadgets in the house already to date!

    1. Mama, you ni batu api, ah? Make people buy, buy, buy! hahahahaha...takleh gi shopping dengan Mama macam ni. Sure beli the whole shop, kang.

This baby is very easy to clean. It is user friendly in the sense that the parts are easy to remove and assemble. The only thing I am concerned is that the rubbery thing inside grinder may give way after some time.

No need to buy this baby because you can easily use a food processor or blender to make the banana ice-cream. See, I ni baik betul. Buat orang jimat duit hee..hee..

  5. Your new toy! Hello Yonanas! I love such ice cream with mixed fruits. I had never tried Banana Ice Cream.
I have a Kenwood ice cream maker at home and wife always made green tea ice cream and chocolate delights.

    1. TM, your ice-cream maker is better because it makes real ice-cream. For banana ice-cream, can simply use the food processor or blender.

  7. This is made with just fresh fruits? So, it's more like a sorbet than an ice-cream, right? Ooo, if can make with blender (I can give it a go), then don't need this special contraption already, hor?

    1. Your are right, Kris. It's more of a sorbet but with banana, it is creamy and can be passed off as ice-cream. Yup, just use your blender or food processor. I don't think you want another gadget to jam up your kitchen hee..hee..

  9. I am one of those horrible persons who will say "buy buy buy!" while keeping my own money in the pocket! XD

I can't imagine keeping a gadget for 4-5 years. If I never use it for 1 year, I would probably bring it home and give it to my mom! :D

    1. Alamak, you another one! I'm opposite of you. My mum will bring over gadgets that she doesn't use and add on to my stable of white elephants LOL!

  13. actually i am quite interested in that ice-cream maker lah.. and actually this is not really "ice-cream" right?? since you did not add in milk or cream, but just frozen fruits and i supposed that is more like "gelato" huh?? nice, less cream means less fat lah, just fruits and maybe a little bit of sugar or lemon juice to enhance the taste, sedap lah.. if i would have this ice-cream maker, i-scream, and i guess i will make myself some everyday, hahahaha.. ice-cream can make one happy lah, why not?? :p

    1. Yeah, this is not ice-cream per se as it is made from 100% fruits. Some fruits may not be suitable to be used due to the texture. Banana is perfect and I am thinking durian! I guess this is good as I will be eating bananas disguised as ice-cream :)

  14. banana and berries ice-cream.. that sounds very nice, i would love this combination actually.. i like those fruity, citrusy, berry and nuts kind of ice-cream flavors.. but no thank you to those chocolate, coffee, green tea stuffs.. so this one that makes ice-cream from frozen fruits is just nice for me, and i guess it can handle nuts to make the ice-cream a little more "sexy" huh?? and you have got different toppings too, and wow, that would be fun and i think i will get lots of sauce, toppings, crushed nuts, dried fruits to go with my ice-cream.. but of course, no whipped cream, hehe~~~

    1. My favourite ice-cream is vanilla and I was thinking of getting an ice-cream maker to make real ice-cream. But knowing me, aiyah, better don't lah. But I think it is very cool to make our own ice-cream as we can tailor made to our taste. And yeah, I like your topping suggestions :)

  17. Hahaha, I am the opposite from your Auntie. Whenever people with me wanted to buy something I will say, don't buy, don't buy, you won't use it, it will just be sitting in the cupboard collecting dust.

The ice cream looks really good, especially with berries.

  18. Phong Hong you are not the only one who buys kitchen toys and then keep them out of sight until we forgot about their existence. I am also one who easily get sucked in to buying "wonderful" gadgets, so now what I do is not to go near them during demo, or just bring my hubby along, haha. Anyway now that you've brought this baby out to daylight, just make more ice cream and let us feast our eyes ;P

  19. Poor Phong Hong! The least is you have nice banana ice cream now to enjoy. I hope that you will continue to use this Yonanas since this is the healthier kind of ice cream. Can you use it to make non-banana ice cream too??? Well, nevermind. What is done cannot be undone :p

I wanted to buy many interesting appliances too like waffle maker, air fryer and electric pressure cooker but told off by my husband... Now, I will have to remind myself that I shouldn't :p

    1. Hi Zoe! There are other fruits that can be used like mangoes, dragonfruit and I believe durian! The other fruits will be more of a sorbet as they are not creamy, Hmmm...when I see durians, I want to make durian ice-cream heee..heee..

  21. Hi Phong Hong, wah got ice cream arh? Perfect for our hot weather, 4 scoops please! hehehe...
You new toy look really nice and hassle free to make ice cream. Since already open ceremony, your to do list have to add in different favor ice creams.

I being eying on the ice cream maker long time already but 'tahan' myself not to buy cos too many gadgets at home. So I use food processor or blender to make ice cream, more work lor but the end result still very smooth and creamy.

    best regards.
