Down Memory Lane

Does that dish of steamed asam fish look familiar? hee...hee...

Well, mum was hankering for asam fish and suggested a makan outing on Saturday. So at mother's request we went for lunch at you-know-where.

I started my morning (on the way to my brother's house) with my usual stunt of sunny side up eggs and coffee at Halla Holla.

I was hungry but since we were going for lunch, I had only 4 eggs.

At Kar Hiong, we ordered our usual same-old-same-old favorites.

Paku Belacan. This dish was served first and then we waited and waited for the next one.

Then the Signature Pork Ribs made its appearance. I thought the ribs were slightly overcooked (a bit dry) and the sauce seemed overwhelming to me.

Then we waited and waited some more. The turnaround time did not improve since the last few times we were there.

The Steamed Asam Carp finally came to the table in a big ass plate. The fish was very fresh which made this dish even more fabulous.

We actually put in an order for another dish - kangkung belacan, but the server missed the order. Which was a blessing because with three dishes, we were already so stuffed.

We were marveling at how we managed four dishes in the past. After a two month hiatus, we under performed hah..hah..

After dropping mum and I back at his house, my brother went off to do what he had to do while I stayed for a short while before walking back to The Starling.

I walked past Baskin Robbins but I did not stop to get anything.

Then I went to get coffee.

This little coffee shop - Baristar Coffee & Tea Express is located right opposite Alliance Bank

It enjoys good business because there are many coffee addicts lovers in the neighborhood.

The coffee is good and affordable. So instead of enjoying coffee at restaurants/cafes (where it can cost much more) I come and tapau coffee here.

Then it was back to the office to do some work. So that was my Saturday.

  1. You had a well planned Saturday. So you had two caffeines on the Saturday in this post. Good idea to dabao the second coffee so you could bring around to drink or bring to your office to drink while doing work. Today is Sunday and mother's day. For my breakfast I had sunny side up too with protein and staple. For caffeine, I dabao from the same coffeeshop so that I could bring around to drink as I was heading elsewhere for my lunch. Here I am, at Vivocity/harbourfront Shi Li Fang hotpot after walking around Vivocity for my retail therapy. Bought two items from Daiso which I consider as needs rather than wants haha.

  2. Shi Li Fang hotpot plays Chinese songs softly in the background so that we can enjoy while relaxing and digesting before leaving and paying and going for a walk again around the shopping mall. I am feeling so bloated now and feeling a little sleepy. By the way, had received your lovely package ytd sat afternoon, unwrapped it this morning and sent you an email.

    1. It's very good since it was fresh. Either asam steamed or with dong choi, both are good.

  5. I see your family likes belacan vegetables a lot....can order paku belacan & kangkung belacan in one meal. Well, eating lesser and lesser is a sign of growing old...wuahahahaha! :D
