On the last day of May, I quickly took my Popular Bookstore Member's Passport to the book shop to use the RM5.00 voucher.
You have to spend at least RM80.00 to qualify. So if you think logically, you save RM5.00 but spend RM75.00. Unless of course if you have something that you really want to buy.
I had books that I wanted to buy for myself and as gifts. Books make good gifts but you have to roughly know what topics the recipient likes.
So I walked around the bookstore, browsing the many books (non-fiction in particular) looking for something I might like.
Whoa! Something spicy!
I can assure you that (contrary to the title and hype back in the day) this book is very boring. I read it when I was in my teens. Maybe the movie was better, I don't know.
I also don't buy into those self-help books that hold promise that you too can achieve the big things that those successful people achieved if only you adopted their habits.
My previous purchase using an RM8.00 voucher was this.
This is one of my latest purchase.
With that my collection of When I Was A Kid is now complete.
I understand that there is no book #6.
Great member passport benefits for customers ππ
ReplyDeleteI am ππ€€ at the kimchi. Must be so appetising.
One more day and then it is weekend again! Yay! π
Oh yes, weekend is just around the corner! Woohoo!
DeleteI see you also now have the complete set of Boey's books like me. I wonder why he skipped the no. #6 - there must be a story to it that we missed.
ReplyDeleteCould it be he lost count and thought the next number was 6 instead of 7? hah..hah... Or it was too controversial to be approved by KDN? LOL!
DeleteYou really could read my mind. The "When I was a kid" book which you gifted me, I like it so much that I had finished reading it the second time. As for "I also don't buy into those self-help books that hold promise that you too can achieve the big things that those successful people achieved if only you adopted their habits.", I also agree with you that we are just mere normal human beings, it is not easy to achieve big things like those successful people, so I read those books with a pinch of salt. Of course, we can still learn a trick/skill or two from those successful people.
ReplyDeleteAnd I had read somewhere that reading is a healthy habit, it stimulates your mind and keeps your mind active. Happy reading! and Happy Pre - TGIF!
By the way, I took one week's leave from my work to fully rest at home. Hopefully will recover by next week.
So happy you loved the book! Yes, true, read self-help books with a pinch of salt and take what we can from the guidance.
DeleteHope you have a great rest week and recover soon! BTW I sent you an email.
Hi PH, when did you send the email, I did not receive it.
DeleteOn 03-06-2025. Maybe it went into your spam folder? I will resend just in case.
DeleteHi PH, had received your resent email, sorry to miss it as I have too many emails. Had replied to you too.
DeleteNo worries, dear!
DeleteBy the way, there is this Western Food Stall in my neighbourhood coffeeshop which I frequent, there was one day I ordered their salmon belly white rice with baked potatoes. After eating a bit, I discovered that the salmon was not well cooked and still raw as if just taken out from the fridge. It was peak dinner period so it could be they wanted to be fast and did not cook the salmon thoroughly. I returned them the salmon and asked them to recook it. They acceded to my request. However, that very night, I went toilet and still had a diarrhea. Another day I revisited them and told them after eating their salmon that very night I lao sai because of the bacteria which I had consumed after eating the first few bits. The staff did not even say sorry and that day I ordered the same (salmon belly). They did not offer to compensate me by charging only 50% of the price. They charged me full cost. That is not the way to do business. Luckily it was just lao sai for me and not food poisoning. Do you think I should stop patronising that stall as I think all they cared is money. When you do business, it is not about money, it is your reputation and integrity. My dad is a businessman and I know that is just not the way to do business.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, you lao sai and yet you still ordered the same thing from them. If I were the owner, I would compensate you with a free meal! This is not good for their reputation. If it were me, honestly I would not go back there.
DeleteI went to order the same salmon belly meal from them because I want to test them if they will compensate me with a free meal. Since they fail my test, I will not go back and patronise them anymore. They have lost a customer in me.
DeleteYes, they failed the test very badly! LOL!
