Like A Goat

Yes, grazing away at vegetation hah..hah..hah... This was from last year when my friend tried this chicken salad at Pho Real @ A Foodies Nest, The Starling.


See that? So Good!


So I went up there and at the time, Taiwan Braised Pork Rice and Teow Chew Meng were newly opened. 


Tripple Happiness is still going strong until today and I do wish that they would sell a side dish of just meat for people like me.


So I went over to Pho Real to order the chicken salad.


My partner always refers to eating salad as "chiak chau" ie "eating grass". Yeah, like a goat hah..hah...


This salad was indeed very good in terms of freshness of the greens, the crunchiness of the beansprouts and the refreshing tanginess of the lime juice dressing. The aroma from the daun kesum enhanced the flavors to another level.


My only complaint was that I found the shredded chicken a bit hard and dry. I believe it was shredded and then stored in the fridge, maybe a bit too long.

Also there was something grainy in the salad, maybe ground toasted rice, an ingredient that is used in some Thai salads. Other than that, I thought this was a very tasty and filling salad.


After I was done, I noted that Cakes & Crust was looking lonely and there was no one there.


So I started snapping photos of the cakes and buns.


I was a little bit carried away.


The lady who looked after this stall spotted me from afar.


She rushed over hoping to make a sale. I said a quick hello and I cabut-ed


I have yet to make any purchase from Cakes & Crust and as at today, they are still at the food court.

  1. I wouldn't mind the salad...without the bean sprouts. Not a fan of those and the green smell.

    1. I used to dislike beansprouts too but have acquired a taste for them.

  2. 😁👍 It is high time to eat the Chicken Salad and Beef Soup again. I would ask for extra squeeze of lemon to kill the smell of chicken meat. I think the crunchy thing is black pepper which is very Viet style ingredient.

    I always bought the old school Buns with Bak Kwa at Cakes and Crusts. Around night time she would often display discount cards promo. Sometimes it was Buy 2 Free 1 which was worth it. The plain butter cake is quite nice but it took me too long to finish the whole slab so I bought assorted slices instead.

    1. Oh! Black pepper! I think they should not make it so coarse. It's like eating sand LOL!

      So that's the strategy to get cheaper buns. Very worth it buy 2 free 1. But I don't go there at night.

  5. Your friend enjoying the chicken salad must be TM. Actually most bakeries will offer their buns & pastries at a discount come a certain time in the evening (you're not aware probably because you don't do shopping at night). The bakeries in my taman does that, so does Aeon. If you're not choosy, it's a real bargain. The other day I even saw the coffee shop's foreign worker carrying a big bag of buns he bought...lol.
