What's New At The Starling?

Well, now that my dad is at home, I don't have to make daily trips to the hospital.

Today after clearing off whatever work I had to do, I went to The Starling for my mall walk. Yes, mall walking is a thing. I make it a point to walk everyday for at least 30-40 minutes. Must keep my legs strong! At the same time I can cuci mata and report back on the new developments at the mall.

There are many little kiosks at the mall selling all sorts of things. This one is called Cream.

They sell all these nyummy...nyummy...pastries that I now choose not to eat. You bet in the past I would be the first in line to try something from here.

They also have a spin wheel (maybe if you buy above a certain amount) for you to try your luck at winning something.

The escalators at The Starling are out of order quite frequently and today was no exception. That's when I noticed that Miniso was closed.

I saw people inside moving stuff.

Are they redecorating or closing down?

On the third floor, something caught my eye. The space next door to Teochew Lor is going to be occupied soon. That was where the horrendous Nene Chicken used to be.

Apparently this is a China franchise - Fish With You. Hmm...interesting.

I don't know about you but I don't like the China cooking style.

There was a Chinese restaurant run by China nationals in Damansara Utama. I can't remember the name. It was at the shop lot next door to the now closed Salad Bar.

I remember the location because the Indian guy working at the Salad Bar was romancing the Indon girl working for this Chinese restaurant hah..hah... got gossip pulak!

So anyway, my partner and I went for dinner there one evening. I don't think I even blogged about it or maybe that was way before I started blogging.

Suffice to say, we did not like what we had. One of the chicken dishes had so much red chilies, we were astounded. So we never returned and within less than a year, the restaurant folded.

Looking at these red chilies reminded me of that ill fated restaurant.

Nine Dragon Char Chan Teng continues to do well in spite of the dismal 3.7 star review on Google.

People continue to queue to get in.

Meanwhile at the food court, Jia Bao Bak Kut Teh has shut down. I am not surprised at all as their food was terrible. They were inconsistent with their quality control and that's what you get when you mess up. Customers will not come back.

Pho Real is still going strong. I tell you, their pho is better than the one at Pho Vietz. Even the leng chai at Red Kettle told me so.

Eh, what's this?

Another nyummy...nyummy...kiosk - Cakes Crush

Aiks! Toy World sudah tutup shop!

See I told you. Kids these days don't play with toys anymore. They play games on the phone or computer. Even these kiddie rides tak laku anymore.

So what have we here?

No. 1 Japanese drugstore, eh?

For as long as the populace continue to be sick and rely on prescription medications, the pharmaceutical industry will continue to thrive and earn billions. I am determined not to give them any of my money.

Ah well, another alternative for the Damansara Uptown folks to get their meds.

  1. SO CHEAP! The cakes & pastries at Cream! We have a few of such places mushrooming all over town, so so so expensive, nothing less than RM10.00. Not for me, thank you very much. They're sweet, anyway!!!

  2. We have Alpro here. I do get some of my meds from there sometimes, depends on what is available and what is on offer. They do give some very good deals for members.

  3. Yes, mall walking is a thing....my neighbours do that (they say can get some exercise under their belt with free air-con...lol!). Oh, you have a Teochew Lor there...can be an option for your carnivore way of eating. Yes, they predominantly sell teochew porridge but in their menu you'd also find lots of braised meat like duck & pork belly that you can eat. Since you're already eating Twins roast duck & char siew which are already marinated in sauce/seasoning, something braised should be alright, right? P/S: I see you're "romancing" a few leng chais yourself...leng chai from Red Kettle lah, leng chai from Twins...wakakakaka!

    1. Ah, yes, I also enjoy the aircond and won't sweat hah..hah... Yes, Teochew Lor is an option but I find the five spice powder taste a bit too strong in their cooking. LOL on the romancing leng chai! Anybody whom I don't know the name, they will be christened "leng chai" (or "leng lui") hee..hee...

  6. China style of cooking is different, maybe due to the weather. Northern part prefer spicier dish as to warm themselves. More bland in the southern part of the country. But I agreed that I also not use to their flavour. Too peppery, too beefy or spicy for me.

    1. It's interesting the different flavors of Chinese food. But I don't mind trying this new restaurant when they open, at least just once.

  7. If Starling Mall pays the shoppers to walk around so often, you could be a millionaire by now! You are definitely very famous now and all Leng Chais recognise you. I swear I saw it with my eyes today. I have walked just as much but nobody knows Uncle TM. I must wear singlet and feathers on my head.

High 5! I also don't like China food after visiting so many provinces in China itself. Their cooking presentation is scary and many restaurants even slaughter the chicken, frogs or rabbits at the entrance in Sichuan. I was told the best food is only at Guangzhou which I have yet to explore.

I look forward to see the No 1 Drugstore opening soon. It is quite common in Japan but I forgot the name of their stores there. You might like it.

I have eaten at Nine Dragons 3 times because you influenced me. I like their comfort food and ambiance inside. Really transported me back to Hong Kong days.

Akan datang!! I will visit Pho Real.

    1. LOL! Mana ada famous? I am sure they know you at some of the restaurants that you frequent. I must try the new Thai restaurant as you suggested.

Ah,,,,so you also don't like China food. I guess Hong Kong or Taiwan food is better suited to our taste. Nine Dragons is super popular and I saw something that might suite me - the mutton soup. But I am scared it might have gamey smell, so I put on hold first. Yes, please visit Pho Real. I guarantee you will like the pho.

  8. I don't like China food too, especially Mala flavoured dishes. Since I read and watched so much regarding drugstores in Japan, I'm looking forward to see what special products they offer.

  9. In Ipoh there is a restaurant called 5000 years, at first people queued to go in... and now, quiet surroundings... I also cannot take too spicy and oily, maybe our weather forbid it, cold weather is different. Not many restaurants can sustain these days, rental at the malls is no joke but then that's the place where people like us spend time, walking and window shopping!

    1. Yes, new restaurants always attract the crowds. If the food is good, customers will continue to support but many times I find that standards tend to drop. That's when things go downhill.
