Past Eats : Tom Yum Fried Rice and Burgers

I have not been in the mood lately to update my posts. Feeling very blah....

Anyway, I found some more photos of my favorite carbs from June 2023, before I embarked on my current meat only reset.


I found myself at Mr Tuk Tuk after a long, long time. So I ordered my favorites - Tom Yum Fried Rice and Almond Chicken.


The fried rice was as good as ever!


I added some Thai Chili sauce and it was so darn good. 


The Almond Chicken was a bit on the dry side but still good.


This is how it looked like after I removed the veggie toppings. That was a very enjoyable dinner, one of my last carb bashes before I decided it had to stop.


Some weeks earlier on I had a couple of burgers from Burger King via Grabfood.


I can't remember what they were exactly.


They were good but what I remember is the bun did not taste nice.


I saw these colorful fruit cups at Aeon while waiting for my partner to pick up his fruits and vegetables. Me, I just zoom to the meat section and boom! I am done.


Then I spotted this Hurom slow juicer promotion. Any of you make fruit juice at home? I used to do that centuries ago and what I can remember is the hassle of washing the juicer. Ughs!


After doing some reading, I decided not to bother with fruit juices. They are full of sugar. It is better to eat the whole fruit. Fruit juice isn't exactly that healthy.


They were also selling this Gingarlic which can purportedly prevent cardiovascular blockage. Hmmm.... 


Now, this to me, is healthy. Red meat is a nutrient dense food and that's what I choose to eat (not every day lah even though I wish I could). 


That's Dr Shawn Baker, author of The Carnivore Diet with his mama. The good doctor in a recent podcast mentioned very candidly that his mom wasn't a very good cook. But still, he grew to be 6 foot 5 inches tall.

What I like about Dr Baker is that he is not dogmatic about this way of eating. As far as he is concerned, once you have healed your health issues, you can reintroduce vegetables into your diet if those veggies are not problematic to you. Of course he didn't say to reintroduce carbs and junk food hah..hah...


Meanwhile, our beloved Chef Wan is still as hilarious as ever in spite of his cancer diagnosis. May Chef Wan's cancer treatment be successful and may he be restored to good health again. Amen.

  1. Phewwwwww!!! I was wondering what happened to you! The sound of silence for so long! No Mr Tuk Tuk here but I went to the one in Miri in 2019. I had a very nice burger the other night - blogpost on that coming up real soon.

  2. Yes I agree with you that it is better to eat whole fruits than to just drink the juice. Thanks for your update despite not feeling like writing. If I don't want to eat noodles and rice and buns, I find there are very few dishes I can order in eateries. Therefore ended up eating one bowl of beef soup in din Tai Fung. Lolx!

  3. I can't resist fried rice, any version of it, but I don't like the taste of the Thai Chili. I eat whole fruit too, like what you mentioned, fruit juice contains high sugar amount.

    1. I bought bottled Thai Chili sauce not too long ago and shockingly I did not like the taste - too sweet and tasted like chemicals. Somehow the one at Mr Tuk Tuk was good.

  4. I have been eating once a week at Mr Tuk Tuk but never bumped into you! Other places, you left your foot prints but I still didn't see Daisy. Maybe you should post ahead your one week's meal plans and locations for your fans.
    My specialist doctor told me to just drink fruit juices daily and not get bothered by those who say a whole fruit has lesser sugar contents. He pointed out the sodium and sugar in my blood is very low. So it doesn't apply to everyone. Just eat , drink and be happy. Cancer happens to many vegans too. Better be a carnivore!! ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚

    1. LOL! Not fated to bump into each other yet. Of course everyone is different. For those who are under-nourished perhaps fruit juice could be good. If you look up the Gerson Therapy protocol for cancer treatment, one of the recommendations is fruit juice. But you have to take coffee from the other end hah..hah...

  5. I used to drink fruit juices when I was in US then my sugar level shot up... after that, I stopped and drank lemon honey instead.... now I still take fruit juices but not on daily basis... once awhile only and yes, eating cut-it-yourself fruits is definitely safer....

    1. Me too. I used to think fruit juice is very good. One of my aunts noticed that she started to put on weight after she drank fruit juice everyday.

  6. Only been to Mr Tuk Tuk once. Not impressed by it. But I found a nice Thai stall few months ago and tasted its Tom yum fried rice. Pretty nice. But still I go for pineapple fried rice.

  7. Your tom yam fried rice looks nothing like the one (as in better) I get in the mall near me. These days I seldom shop at Aeon as I can get most of the things I need from the supermarket/mini markets in my taman...but if there's one thing I can't get...it's beef! So, I was at Aeon Taman Maluri the other day but the beef selection is so limited...nothing like what you can get (certainly not this organic beef). Don't even have steak cuts...haiz...only stir-frys (True Aussie beef brand also)...maybe I was just unlucky?

    I love to drink fruit juices more than eating the fruit itself....and yeah, I know about the higher sugar content. Since I don't juice at home, I can limit intake fruit juices to the times I dine out at western-style places or restaurants (I don't drink them in coffee shops).

    1. The Aeon at I Utama always has steak cuts (when I visit Sundays) but I have only tried the oyster blade. I have also tried some other online steak suppliers but I have to say that Feast Market's is still the best. Yes, expensive but worth it if you want really good steaks. The steaks from the other suppliers I have tried thus far are tough, too lean and has not flavor. Really a waste of money and I have given up.

      I am not a fan of fruits, prefer vegetables like my mum. The main reason I stopped fruit juices back then was because I was too lazy to wash the juicer. So mafan! LOL!
