Ayam Gepuk Artisan (Via GrabFood)

Ah! Ayam Gepuk! hah..hah..hah...

My experience with Ayam Gepuk is not many :

That's it. Only three.

So what made me try Ayam Gepuk Artisan?

This funny guy.

Watch : Here

So. Sunday.

This restaurant is located in Subang Bestari. So there is no way that I could visit since (1) I don't drive (2) my partner or my brother would not be keen to go there with me. So GrabFood it is.

The food is packed in a paper box. It contains the usual Ayam Gepuk components - white rice, two pieces of crispy chicken (the other alternative is traditional fried chicken), kobis goreng, cucumber slices, raw cabbage, tempeh, tofu, sambal gajus and kicap manis.

The sambal gajus portion is just right, generous and enough for one serving. It was thick and nutty (I can't taste cashew, more like peanuts) and spicy (but not too spicy since I chose pedas and not extra pedas).

I transferred the food to a plate. I requested for thigh and drumstick and my request was fulfilled.

I poured the sambal onto the rice.

And applied the kicap manis. Bon appetit!

What I can say is that I enjoyed this Ayam Gepuk. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. It was well seasoned too. As for the sambal gajus, it was good and the addition of kicap manis elevated the experience.

The kobis goreng was smokey and I liked it a lot. The tempeh and tofu were a nice accompaniment while the cucumber slices and raw cabbage cut through the richness of the dish.

Well, if I get an Ayam Gepuk craving, I will order again from this restaurant.

Note : Those of you who left comments in my earlier posts, I will reply tomorrow ya!

  1. Looks good! I only had ayam gepuk for a few times too, 2x with chicken leg, 2x with boneless chicken. I prefer the crunchy bayam goreng with texture like seaweed.

  4. You had only three ayam gepuk experience? Well, I had none....lol! My husband is not into Malay food either...other than having the occasional nasi lemak. There's also a reason why you don't see me eating Malay food often and that's because they use a lot of sugar in their food especially in their sambals (also as in kicap manis in this dish). Haha, the ayam gepuk bug has really "bitten" you...till you'd even order grabfood for it! :O Other than the usual "suspects" on the plate, what intrigued me is the sambal gajus (I get this feeling of richness in my mind since I've not had it before much like I also don't like too much peanuts in my satay sauce). Anyway, your gepuk ayam would make an ideal meal for two (as in not 2 persons) but me eating half of it for lunch and the other half at dinner, more so when the chicken already come in 2 pcs. I used to get Mat Rock Ayam Goreng Kunyit (with fried egg) and eat that over 2 meals. Technically, I could consume 3/4 of the dish (or even finish it) but that leaves me feeling too full, so I eat half with the egg and fry another egg to go with the other half...hehehe! ;) P/S: Oh this guy, see him all the time as invited guest for ShopeeFood (and he'll of course say all is good, difficult to believe him...lol).

    1. Well, I can honestly say that ayam gepuk is not something spectacular, biasa-biasa aje but the highlight is the sambal (+ kicap manis) and the fried chicken. The sambal itself is not sweet. Ah, you might not like the sambal gajus since you are not into rich sauces. Hah..hah... my tank is XXL, I can eat a lot of food hee..hee...

Oh, I had no idea that guy does work for Shoppee. I find him amusing.
