A Sassy Assam Rice Bowl

After visiting Operator 21 last month, I thought I would not return.

Not that there was anything wrong with the food, it was just too radical for me hah..hah... I have a very unsophisticated palate.

But when I saw their  promotional offer of Lunch Bowls with complimentary drink, it tempted me to revisit.

So there I was at lunch and I was wondering which bowl to get.

The Sassy Seabass Assam Rice Bowl was my choice and I chose to add-on RM8.00 for an Ice White.

While waiting for my meal, I checked their recommendations.

The Tiramisu Coffee is very tempting but I suspect it might be too sweet for me. So I will not take the risk.

I have tried their latte before and found it weak but I wanted to try it again. And yes, it was the same.

Ah! There you go, the Sassy Seabass Assam Rice Bowl. Now, where is the assam you ask?

It is right under the fish, on top of the rice.

I have mixed feelings about this bowl. The good points - the seabass is fresh and the portion is generous, loved it!

As for the assam sauce, we know that there are many variations from state to state and family to family. This rendition was decent. No complaints.

The iffy points - the onsen egg was out of place, although I love eggs. So were the roasted broccoli, jalapeno sauce and bread & butter pickles.

Steamed vegetables would have worked better in my opinion. Or even fresh cucumber and pineapple slices (or an acar made simply with white vinegar, sugar and salt).

I came back for the Tornado Katsu Rice Bowl. This time I chose the complimentary Ice Lemon Tea. It was served in a transparent can. Cute! Unfortunately I found the drink too sweet for me.

So I added water to it.

Oooh! That looks very good, the big piece of chicken katsu (seasoned and fried to perfection). Underneath was rice and (tornado) omelette.

The plating does not showcase the "tornado" (clearly the chicken katsu was the highlight) but no matter. The omelette was very tasty as it was cooked with butter. On the side were roasted broccoli florets.

I loved the chicken katsu and omelette. This bowl was more enjoyable than the earlier one. Oh, I love the generous sprinkling of spring onions. The fried shallots not so much, those were commercial ones.

Well, I am glad I revisited.

Oh dear, I don't think that is a good idea hah..hah...
