Luckin Coffee, Damansara Utama

I have been wanting to visit Luckin Coffee to have a taste of their Butter Americano.

So I stepped inside after delivering mum's lunch.

It was very quiet with only one (very busy) barista working behind the counter.

I saw a lady walk in to pick up her order. I also noticed her scanning her phone on the QR reader on the left hand side of the counter before picking up her drink.

When I approached the barista, I was informed that I had to download and order via the app. Adoi. I am very auntie, ok? So I decided to come back later.

Then I came back after lunch (which I packed from home). The Little Butter Latte was listed at RM16.00. Pricey.

But with the app you get it at RM2.99 on your first order. This is obviously a marketing gimmick. So I placed my order, paid using e-wallet and the app generated a pick-up code (with estimated time of completion).

Once your drink is ready, it is placed on the counter with a chit displaying the corresponding order code. Just scan your pick-up code on the scanner on the counter and pick up your drink. Ok, simple enough.

So this was my Little Butter Americano. When I ordered, I placed a remark "No sugar, no syrup". One sip and ugh! It was butterscotch. Why can't they call it butterscotch? I find it misleading. Butter and butterscotch, they are different although butterscotch is made with butter.

The drink was very diluted and the butterscotch tasted like chemicals (artificial flavoring which of course it is). But at RM2.99 (RM3.17 with SST) I guess I can't complain.

Yesterday morning I returned because I wanted to taste the Americano before I draw a conclusion about Luckin Coffee.

I saw people coming out of the shop and inside there were more people. Hmmm...

The barista worked very quickly and efficiently behind the counter. I can never do her job. I would be very confused with all the different orders.

Moment of truth.

Well. The Americano was very diluted just like the Little Butter Americano. I did not get the robust coffee flavors as I have come to expect. Again, at RM4.23, I cannot complain.

So I won't be buying anymore coffee here (app uninstalled). Good luck Luckin Coffee!

  4. Thanks dear for reviewing this Luckin Coffee. I've passed them many times in Aeon and wanted to try...and now I know I don't have to. Now we know why they're cheap (they're diluted)...and cheap coffees are usually not good...lol! With vouchers applied, their coffees are even cheaper than local coffees in kopitiams! :O There's also Zus coffee (that one of my chatgroups is always talking about but a friend told me I wouldn't like it, so I dare not try). I guess after drinking cafe coffees, the other coffees that quite come up to mark! :D

    1. You are welcome! Knowing how much you and I appreciate good coffee, this Lucking Coffee is not for us! I was actually quite taken aback when I took my first sip. My late dad would have commented "taste like dishwater" LOL! They are rather popular though, maybe due to the cheap pricing. I have tried ZUS once and only once. So you can draw your conclusion from there LOL!

  6. LOL, I laughed at your statement "Good Luck Luckin Coffee", such an irony. Let's see how long they can last. I guess kopitiam/old school coffees taste better than theirs. Plenty of Luckin Coffee in SG but I had never ever step in before since their Day One.
