A Festive Roast

I walked past Dave's Deli, The Starling when I saw their Festive Roast promotion.

Although I am not too excited about chicken these days, why not?

I was relegated to a very obscure corner of the restaurant designated for table for one (or two). I felt a little bit claustrophobic hah...hah...

I like that water is on the house.

Dave's Deli's roasted chicken is good and the gravy is delicious. I also loved the mashed potatoes which were chunky.

The roasted veggies were pretty much boiled or steamed. Meanwhile the cranberry sauce was quite awful, it had the texture of jam and did not taste nice. I don't know what proper Yorkshire Pudding should taste like, this one was tough and chewy.

Oh, there was sage & chestnut stuffing under the chicken and the stuffing was actually quite nice. So this Festive Roast was a hit and miss in terms of tastes and textures.

Let me share some of my Auntie's beautiful blooms.

She sent me these photos (any many more) near the end of 2024.

At that time, my family and I were dealing with my late dad's poor health.

So I was no in the mood to appreciate these beautiful roses from New Zealand.

Now that dad is in a better place, so are we. I love my dad but I am glad that it is all over.

  3. Hey there, I love the blooms! Able to update the climate and weather in New Zealand, like this year end, my bucket list for travelling will be New Zealand or Australia but unsure of the climate there. Dear, I like how you put regarding the crisis and issue with regards to your late dad ๐Ÿ™ just like how the quote says. Love the food too though there are some hits and misses. Thanks for sharing all the photos and the quote. Ciao! Will hop over to Linda's blog.

  4. For me, Dave Deli's has seen better days...they're not what they used to be. As for the Yorkshire Pudding, it should taste light and fluffy (that's why it's a failed one if t doesn't rise...lol). P/S: Ya, I agree with you (not wanting to sound ungrateful) but we'll be glad that it's over especially seeing their suffering and being bedridden. When death is inevitable, we'd wish for it to be quick.

    2. Kris : Yes, they have seen better days though I find their roast chicken (still) quite nice. You are right, it may sound negative but we want loved ones to cross over quickly to end their suffering and to give the living relief so that they cab get on with life.

    3. Dear friend PH, agree with what you said to Kris, not that we are heartless, if people can understand.
