I am a big fan and so is my brother. We super love Big Breakfast. So far at Damansara Uptown, you can get a really good Big Breakfast at Red Kettle (daily) and The Charcoal Grill (weekends).
The Rustic Grill has now joined the brunch bandwagon and for now brunch is limited to the weekends.
Last Saturday, I was not feeling well. I had a runny nose and I could feel the beginnings of a fever. But I still dragged myself to Damansara Jaya to deliver mum's favorite nasi lemak from Say Yes Cafe.
On my way back to the office, I dropped by The Rustic Grill for their weekend brunch.
Their staff [who I would politely address as Kak (big sister)] was standing at the entrance and she called me Auntie. Adoi. LOL!
Although I am a fan of sandwich and burger, I cannot say that I am excited about chicken as the protein.
Beef is always my first choice (followed by lamb and oinks) but chicken appeals to a wider palate because there are people (like my partner) who do not consume beef. Besides, this is a Muslim friendly eatery.
Pasta is also featured with chicken since we want to appeal to the general public. I may be keen on the Prawn Aglio Olio.
As for drinks, I am delighted that they now serve coffee. Woohoo!!
The Iced Americano was wonderful, good coffee as I expect it to be. My brother and I have a criteria for visiting eateries - they must serve coffee LOL! We visited The Butcher's Table only once. Why? Because they don't serve coffee hah..hah..hah...
I was early (as usual) and from where I sat, I could see the pedestrian bridge that I climb almost everyday.
Clockwise from left :
1. A fried egg on top of a slice of very fresh fluffy bread. Love the bread and the egg could have been better presented with a (runny) yolk face up.
2. Half a fried tomato which in my opinion needed some salt.
3. Three thin slices of potato fried till crispy - loved this, need more.
4. Sauteed button and eryngii mushrooms. Tasty though the eryngii stems were a bit chewy.
5. Two small (chicken) sausages which was very starchy and were my least favorite item on my plate. These could be replaced with better quality sausages.
6. Lightly dressed salad greens and cherry tomatoes - made the plate pretty.
7. A very generous portion of steaky beef which was over fried and a bit tough. I love streaky beef and if I can't have bacon, these are very good stand ins.
8. And at the center, a serving of baked beans.
In terms of portion, I would say the serving size of this big breakfast is indeed generous.
It would be good if brunch could be extended to weekdays to give customers more variety in addition to the current three lunch sets.
I can see myself coming back and I am open to trying the other brunch items.
Hi dear friend, I am sure your mother really appreciated your kind gesture! I truly hope you feel better soon! Your breakfast looks delicious! My favourite breakfast, although I don't have it often because my appetite is not big (although I wish it were bigger than it is) consists of two sunny side up eggs, bacon, brown toast, hash browns and coffee or tea. I love bacon! I don't eat it often, but the smell of it just brightens my day (much like the smell of coffee brightens some peoples' day).
ReplyDeleteThe fact that the chicken sausages were starchy would have made me not like them either.
I am looking at the menu you posted. I love strawberry milkshake! McDonald's has it as well and it is really good!
Your descriptions make most of the food sound very tantalizing! Thank you so much for sharing.
Coffee, can be heaty as I Google. No wonder I felt kind of warm and going to get throat infection when I drank kopi (milk coffee) that day. I felt my throat feeling kind of dry and itchy which was why I Google. So dear go easy on coffee. But each individual varies and that was just me, just sharing dear.
ReplyDeleteHey dear, just want to share something about Science. Am reading this book, right now, borrowed from my neighbourhood community library. RUDE SCIENCE, Everything you've always wanted to know about the science no one ever talks about, by author Stefan Gates. With 9 chapters 1. Hello 2. Juices, gloops and crispy bits 3. RUDE noises 4. Revolting skin 5. Awkward bits 6. Hairy humans 7. Your cozy parasite family 8. Weird senses 9. Body language
ReplyDeleteWill share short extracts from it, later when I am free. It is an easy read, without super complicated scientific and chemistry terms but good for us to know. BRB!
ReplyDeleteI love to eat big breakfast too and this big breakfast at 32 is a good price ๐๐
ReplyDeleteI am not sure when is my next makan makan trip to uptown. Next time I go there on a weekend maybe will go eat this big breakfast. Thank you for the review.
LOL! Got one handsome guy who is white haired, also addressed me as Auntie in our neighbourhood community library, I went like Adoi (in my heart) like you too hah hah hah, but come to think of it, good for you also lah, won't attract stalkers, I very scare of stalkers, had experienced it many times lol! And yes, dear, you are right to say that chicken and fish are two of the top choices when it comes to meat and protein, widely due to religious reasons. Can now go through your tasty looking photos and description since I already had my Food and Beverage intake for breakfast and lunch already. Breakfast was 1. One warm black tea with sugar (S$1.10) 2. Two soft boiled eggs (S$1.20) and 3. Two yam cakes (aka orrh kueh) (with a little dark sweet sauce and sesame seeds, the yam cakes were warm, tasty, filling and satisfying (S$2 in total). Lunch was 1. A slice of red, juicy and refreshing watermelon (S$1) dined in together with Teriyaki Salmon Don with salad (consisting of greens and cherry tomatoes). I bought/takeaway the slice of fruit from my neighbourhood fruit stall and ate it at the Food Centre with my Japanese lunch which I requested for an extra plate from the boss (with fork and spoon) to eat my big slice of watermelon. I am happy that my meals plan went on smoothly which I got Vitamin C from the fruit and greens, Vitamin D from the eggs, Omega 3 from the salmon fish and lastly caffeine/cooling agent from the black tea with sugar. Stay cool, it is raining in SG now.
