Eating Clean(er)

I am pleased to note that although I have reintroduced carbohydrates to my diet, I have not experienced (significant) weight gain or any adverse effects (unless if I overdo it).

I have completely eliminated snacks and as for processed foods, I do eat some (bacon, salami) but infrequently. When eating out I try to eat something that has a smaller portion of carbs accompanied by meat/eggs and some veggies.

I think it is predominantly the avoidance/reduction of sugar/carb/chemical laden (addictive) foods that is contributary to my improved health and weight stability.

I am glad that some places like Halla Holla serve side dishes like eggs that I eat when I don't want carbs. I never get tired of eggs so it's great. They also have a House Salad on the menu.

So that's what I had (for the first time) that day after a 20 hour fast. I added roast beef and an egg even though the salad already includes one egg. I like my salad protein packed.

Apparently coffee is good for our gut microbiome because coffee contains soluble fiber. Hmm! How nice!

After my meal, I went for my mall walk. I don't like being caught behind a group of leng luis (young ladies) as they walk so slowly. Beep! Beep! Make way for this speeding auntie!

Malaysians do not know how to stand in a single file on one side of the escalator (to give way to others who wish to speed ahead).

Didn't quite hit 10,000 steps but it's OK,

Just sharing something I found on Instagram which resonated with me.

1. I am fitter now than I was in my twenties (or earlier).

2. Well, I wished I knew this when I was younger. But thankfully I did not miss the bus!

3. I agree 40 is young. In fact 50, 60, 70 and even 80 is still young! What is old? 100? hah..hah...

4. Yup, that's what I aspire to be. A strong auntie who can match the speed and strength of a leng lui.

5. Praise the Lord, I don't need any medications.

6. At 30 I was too busy building my career and I did not pay much attention to my health. No worries, I started in my 40s and I am glad that I did. Never too late!

7. This is good advice.

Health is wealth!

  1. Hi dear friend, first of all, I would like to thank you so much for your visits and kind comments on my blog posts. I greatly appreciate your friendship and support.
Getting to your post, I think it is fantastic that you haven't experienced any weight gain with the carbs. I think moderation is the key, even in eating the healthiest foods, as we can overdo even good things.
I ❤️ smiled broadly when you talked about age, as I will be 60 in 3 weeks. Yes, October 27th.
I am very proud of you for taking control of your health.

    1. My pleasure, Linda, likewise! Very true, too much of a good thing is bad and even vegetarians or people on low carb/keto, if we overeat, we will gain weight. Health is so important and seeing my parents health deteriorate made me even more conscious about maintaining my own health.

    1. Thank you, Linda! We have to make that first difficult step to make changes to our lifestyle. Gradual change is good, no need to make radical changes as that might derail our intentions.

  3. I love your photos and your meal plate looks attractive, colourful and wholesome. You are so right. Health is wealth. I find it sad that people don't realize how fortunate and blessed they are to have good health until they get sick.
Thank you so much for sharing, you an encouragement to myself and I am sure many others.

    1. I try to make people aware of the consequences of not taking care of their health. I look around me and see many aged people weak and helpless, may needing wheelchairs. I admire those who can still walk unaided with a steady gait. That is what I aim to be!

  4. Sorry, I made a typo on my age...I will be 69, not 60, on October 27th.

With regards to the above, I read that everyone standing on one side of the escalator will make the escalator unbalanced and will break down easier due to the uneven distribution of weight so some people know this so will stand on both side of escalator to maintain the balance.

    1. Some countries adopt standing on one side as part of elevator etiquette but it makes sense about the weight balance especially if human traffic is heavy.

  7. If I can have a salad (with added roast beef) that looks anything like the one here, I can eat it every day of the week! ;)

  8. Yes, it's sometimes annoying when ppl in front are walking slowly. My exception are elderlies & small kids/toddlers, other than that, please be smart and have some civic mindedness.
