Book Worm

Do you like to read? When I was a little girl, my grandfather bought me many books to instill the love of reading in me.

He bought me story books and I had free access to his library (which included books that were not suitable for young eyes hah...hah...).

My Kong-Kong was a voracious reader. He had books ranging from politics to science to fiction/science fiction, biographies, classics, the occult and yes, even some naughty stuff (which by modern standards is sleep inducing like Lady Chatterley's Lover. Yawn...) and many more.

My late grandfather's love for reading rubbed off on me and I read a lot but I stopped when I started working. I had no time to indulge in books because by the time I came home, I was brain dead.

But now, I have started reading again. It's good to stimulate my brain and keep up with lifelong learning.

I like to drop by the bookshop on my mall walks.

A good deal but I have many books which I need to finish first.

They have this series of Reality Date with a Book.

You don't know the title of the book. Only hints of what the subject matter is.

And then there is this Blind Date with a Book.

Same thing. Hints.

Would you buy a book like this? I won't because I want to know what I am buying.

There is a bakery cafe inside the bookshop.

I visited back in 2019 when they were at another location at another floor.

At the food court, I noted that La Fayette has opened an outlet here.

I am not certain if their cafe at the same row as The Ship will still remain open.

I visited their other outlet in 2022 but was not impressed.

Then I went downstairs.

The Hari Raya decorations and kiosks have been removed but it was soon to be filled up and bustling again.

At the La Gourmet shop, they were promoting this Emerald Hill collection. The Emerald Hill mini series is currently playing on Netflix. I remember watching The Little Nyonya with my partner a few years ago. Emerald Hill is some sort of a spin off.

My recent dinner. Steak, eggs and kimchi.

  1. I also won't buy that surprise package since I don't like surprises.
I read all Enid Blyton books and Nancy drew books when young. Later I also read all harry potter books though some people may say the books are more for children. Nowadays just read things online.

    1. Ah! I also read Enid Blyton books when I was young hee..hee... But I did not read all in the series. I find it hard to read online as I prefer traditional printed books.

  2. Me me me! I am a book worm since schooling days. Talking about books, I just finished reading a tiny book titled "unlonely and how to feel less isolated, make connections and live a life you love". The types of book I love to read are related to religion, self improvement and once in a while romance. At times I will read books related to politics and psychology. Other types of book which are related to travel, beauty and health and interior design are just for leisure browsing by looking at their illustrations.

And yes, I won't buy those books which you mentioned as I need to know what I am buying and reading. Reading is good rather than spending too much time on social media like Facebook, IG, Twitter or Tik tok.

Your dinner is a very balanced and satisfying meal.

    1. You have a good choice of topics to read. Nowadays I prefer non-fiction and autobiographies/biographies . I agree that reading is better than spending time on social media.

  3. Part of the extracts from the book I just finished reading goes like " Social media can make you feel like everyone else is always out having a good time, when the reality is, that is simply not the case. It might be a good idea to remind yourself that social media is not real life - it's merely the best bits of other people's days that they are happy and willing to share". True right?

    1. I am familiar with some of the books you mentioned. I have read Robin Hood, Prisoner of Zenda and The Three Musketeers. You could try looking for the Dan Brown series online. One book series I enjoyed was James Herriot's All Creatures Great and Small.

  5. With printed books, you can highlight quotes or parts of the book which you find interesting, you can also get to see beautiful pictures or photos if the book comes with illustrations. I still love to read from printed books than online.

  6. Even box purchase has blind box, haha! Hubby has appointed The Starling Mall food court as our rainy weekend dinner spot for its convenience (no need to bring umbrella) and food varieties (plus point is with many vendors offer non halal food).
