Remember Kedai Kopi Malaya? I won't be surprised if you don't because the food, to me, was unmemorable.
I snapped their shop front on a day when they were closed (Monday). It can be awkward taking a photo when there are customers inside or when there are people the entrance.
This is their menu.
The interior decor is much better than the previous layout, spacious, bright and airy (better energy flow I would say).
I opted for the nasi lemak ayam goreng berempah. The nasi lemak was very aromatic and lemak enough for me. I thought it was quite good. The other carb option is pulut (glutinous rice) which I felt is too heavy for me.
The fried chicken was fried just right rendering the exterior crispy and the meat moist and tender. I could tell from the texture that the chicken was fresh. Even the Chinese style sambal I enjoyed. I wished for a more generous portion or perhaps next time I could pay for extra.
Meanwhile some other developments in Damansara Uptown.
Back in the 1990's there were quite a number of bakeries in this area. Now there are only three (Baker's Cottage included, the other two being TK Confectionery and RT Pastry).
Last weekend I went again to sapot sapot.
One curry puff, kaya puff, mini donuts, banana muffins, chocolate muffin and a sausage roll. The muffins were pretty good and so was the kaya puff. The rest were all right.
The thing I miss most from KL is not that delicious looking nasi lemak, because somehow can get decent ones in Penang too. Wantan mee also still OK, can get some familiar taste if we pay a premium at certain shops. No, the thing I miss most now (from what the menu shows) is KL sauced chee cheong fun. Which of course I won't get to taste this time as well :( ...
ReplyDeletePoor you... but eh, mum's cooking is better mah...
DeleteI see you've feasting on a lot of fried chicken & nasi lemak lately...lol! I see this new cafe not only took over the space but retained most of the decor as well (especially that front door). I can understand the 'no need to spend too much on renovation' mentality by adopting the flooring and frontage but sometimes it can work to their disadvantage coz some people who walk by might just think it's still the same old place! >_<
ReplyDeletehee..hee.. I am back to chap fan already LOL!
DeleteThe ayam goreng berempah looks like the ayam penyet you had the other day. Oooo...the char siew with the wanton mee - I love such black versions, nicer than the red ones!
ReplyDeleteThis wanton mee is my favorite, no need to try others hee..hee..
DeleteLovely Kolam. No public holiday over here but kids are off from school on Fri.
ReplyDeleteI would like that Nasi Lemak too. Hope you get to try it's CCF next time.
When I try the CCF I will blog about it.
DeleteWhy is the fork and spoon in a cup of water?
ReplyDeleteIt was in a cup of hot water to disinfect the cutleries LOL!
Deletenice looking nasi lemak. The place looks retro too!
ReplyDeleteYa, like old kopitiam.
DeleteThe nasi lemak looks good. The tables are well spaced. I have tried the Baker's Cottage roast chicken.
ReplyDeleteI must try the roast chicken!
DeleteThis uptown area got so many eateries that open to test the market. This one gets a good review from you. If I go to uptown, so many eateries to try. Yums!
ReplyDeleteThere are a few more new ones coming up.
DeleteThat's a great name for a cafe.
ReplyDeleteVery catchy and easy to remember.
DeleteThe ayam goreng berempah definitely looked good! Some time ago Baker's Cottage was selling roasted chicken at RM10.90/11.90 only, and I bought one which was not bad at all for the price charged. Is this outlet selling roasted chicken?
ReplyDeleteYes, this outlet also sells roasted chicken. I intend to try it one day.
DeleteWhat a delightful update by this PH who is the real "Uptown Girl"...!!!
ReplyDeleteI remembered that miserable Malaya kopi tiam which survived so long. I suspect the owner lives in my area as he posted the move in the community facebook and his loyal fans were from same kampung lah.
I must visit this Baker's Cottage since I have been buying a variety of small buns while I am still on strict miserable diet.
I had been going around trying out new restaurants. Must help them to get some exposure lah hah..hah... A new food stall opened at Foodie's Nest and I will go and try and then blog about it.
