Red Velvet

By now you know what I do Fridays. I am very predictable.

That is very me. I don't like surprises and I cannot accept things on an ad hoc basis. I like having a plan and I want to know what to expect.

Even my mum knows by now to expect duck rice on Fridays hah...hah...

I passed by this cafe and yes, coffee first, everything later. Sokong 100%!

Later at Antipodean, a group of aunties arrived and they were not so accepting of the QR code menu. So two of them went up to the written menu to place their order.

After I placed mine - Lime Infused Lamb Kebab, Ice Latte and Red Velvet Cake, the server mentioned that he was aware that I was not happy with the Lemon Meringue Pie last week.

Oh! I was very surprised (that he noticed the barely eaten pie). He asked me why and I told him very frankly that the pie was hard and did not taste good.

He then informed me that the Red Velvet Cake will be complimentary to make up for my disappointment. Wow. I wasn't expecting that and I was impressed.

The ice Latte was very good. It was better than the one I had on my first visit.

Ah... that looks good!

The Lamb Kebabs were just as good as the Beef Kebabs I had on an earlier visit.

I loved the fries too!

And then time for (my complimentary) dessert. Red Velvet Cake.

The cake was dense but in a good way, moist and even the frosting was not too sweet. I enjoyed the cake very much.

That was another very good lunch at Antipodean and kudos to the server for being observant and service oriented.

I took these photos on my way back to DU.

I was feeling a little bit down that day because the day before I learnt that a lady from the upstairs office passed away a few days ago. I was shocked. And much saddened as we would usually say hi when we passed each other at the stairs.

And while I was eating lunch, I received a message that a director of a company I am servicing had just passed away. Another shock.

That's life. Unpredictable.

  1. Dear friend, I love the quote. The little bear in your latte is so cute! Your flowers photos are beautiful! Your kebab plate looks scrumptious! I like the hardwood floors in one of your photos. It gives the place a warm, rustic ambiance!
    The cake looks delicious!!!

  2. That's very nice of them to give you a complimentary cake (that's how you do business...well!) in replacement of the awful one you had. Yeah, their thick-cut fries are good. I revisited Antipodean recently too. P/S: As wet grow old-er, we tend to get sad and disheartening news of people (we know) passing away or having an illness (coz we're at that age)...and it can be rather depressing! :'(

    1. Yes, they know how to keep this customer happy LOL! Antipodean has become one of my favorite places to eat and relax. I am sure you had a good experience with your recent visit (I am hoping you would blog about it heh..) Indeed, such sad news has become common, I lost a few of my peers in recent times and had news of some being admitted to the ICU.

  5. Me too. There was an elderly uncle (the boss) of my neighbourhood furniture shop, I used to say hello or good morning or do small talk with him whenever I see him however since last year he "disappeared", I did not ask the lady boss (his wife) or his son, what happened to him in case they may not be pleased or feel that I am kaypoh. He looked very old like in his 70s and always appeared like a fatherly figure to me. I felt sad cos he maybe sick or not feeling well as I had jot seen him for months.

    1. You are right, even though we want to know what happened (to better understand why the person passed) it is better not to ask in case it may upset the family. Not too long ago, one uncle running a provision shop near my office passed away. He appeared healthy but unfortunately caught Covid and it took him away. So sad.

  6. Wow! The staff can recognise you and remember you left most of the lemon pie uneaten. Also so nice of them to give you the free red velvet cake to compensate you. Super customer service 💪

  7. Sad for people who always think that there is tomorrow to do what they want to do but suddenly passed away. So so sad 😭

    1. Very true. We can never be sure what tomorrow will bring, so what we want to do, don't keep delaying.
