There is this restaurant, Common Feed, that I wanted to visit.
I read that this restaurant serves Italian-Spanish food.
It is located next to the famous Damansara Uptown Hokkien Mee. I have walked past Common Feed on Saturdays and found the restaurant packed with diners. Must be good, eh?
So I visited at lunch during a time when they were not so busy. But still, there were already other customers, so I did not take a photo of the interior.
I looked at the menu to find sharing plates, pasta & risotto, mains and pizza. Sadly the pizza is only available from 6:00pm onwards, a time not convenient for me to visit.
And on the other side of the menu are their Focaccias and Lunch Pasta, salad, beverages and desserts.
Well, being particularly well behaved that day (hah..hah..hah..) I decided that I should abstain from carbs. That can wait for another day.
The only carnivore options were the Collar Steak (pork) and Beef Short Ribs. Very pricey. Anything to do with meat is always pricey.
So, OK. Collar Steak it was. As for drinks, I am disappointed that they do not serve regular coffee. Instead the only coffee options were either Cold Brew (not to my liking but better than nothing) or Drip Coffee. And even then, the Cold Brew was not available (out of stock). Adoi.
So I had the Iced Lemon Tea (because I was thirsty).
My fear with such drinks is the level of sweetness and I am happy to report that this Iced Lemon Tea was not sweet at all.
And then my food was served.
Eh? Just like that, true to what was described in the menu - Pork Collar Steak with Garlic Mustard Seed Aioli. I know, that's what it is but it was still shocking to see the plate like that and at that price LOL!
But. As I said in my head - this better be good! And yes it was. The meat might look dry in the photo but it was actually tender and moist. The seasoning/marinade was very good. I loved the garlic aioli which enhanced the flavors of the meat.
But no, at RM52.00 I will not order this again. No regrets though because it was actually a delicious dish and I stayed largely carnivore. No desserts, next time perhaps (carb day) when I eat something more affordable.
Since I did not get my coffee fix, I walked to Baristar Coffee & Tea Express (next door to Mamalee, opposite Alliance Bank).
They serve good affordable coffee. Take away only as they occupy a very small space.
I tapau their biryani for my mum last weekend but she wasn't excited. Mum loves Indian food, so her reaction (or lack of it) was a very brief and telling review of the biryani hah..hah...hah...
Good morning. Starting my day with a coffee and breakfast and a walk at my neighborhood pasar pagi before I start to WFH this afternoon..There are quite many such fusion restaurants, Italian-Japanese for example. They should spread out the pork evenly on a plate or use a smaller plate, if not, it makes the portion look so small.
ReplyDeleteAhhh, your fur kids, so cute! Lucky for you to capture and take down picture of such a cute, funny, playful and mischievous moment of them playing.
I love Indian biryani too but I can't take curry or chili or spicy food too often as I get sore throat and cough easily (sad me). I was not like that during my younger days.
Good morning! What a good way to start the day. It is nice to walk at pasar pagi or pasar malam to lok-see-look-see. I am OK so far when eating spicy food, no adverse reactions.
DeleteA lot of temptations at the pasar pagi LOL!
DeleteI would think so!
DeleteCommon feed, not for commoners which should be affordable LOL!
ReplyDeletehah...hah...hah...
DeleteHi PH you are a girl who are sensitive to your family's and others' needs. You will pay attention to and observe whether your partner or your mom or even your brother if they enjoy their food and notice it. Thumbs up girl. So when your mom did not finish the biryani with nods of approval or sounds of oomph or ahhh showing satisfaction that means the biryani does not ngam her taste.
ReplyDeleteI tend to observe so that I can roughly tell if the food is ngam them or not.
DeleteRm5 black coffee is affordable coffee ☕ good π for them π
ReplyDeleteThe pork collar steak sure looks lonely π
hah..hah... my lonesome pork steak. Haiz!
DeleteWith just extra RM30, I can get pretty delicious 150g of steak at Grub by Ahong which I just had on last Friday. I think you should try out that place!
ReplyDeleteI have been to Grub by Ahong and I loved it but my brother and I never returned due to parking difficulties.
DeletePerhaps the collar steak you had was Iberico (just not mentioned by name) but since it's a Spanish restaurant, it's perceived to be? And that's why it was expensive...but if it's good, that makes up for the price. ^_~
ReplyDeleteNot too certain if it was Iberico and if that is the pork they serve, I think they should mention on the menu (so that we feel the price is berpatutan heh..heh...) As you said, since it was good, it was worth what I paid.
