The Devil Made Me Do It

That's the excuse some serial killers use to justify why they did what they did. So do serial carb addicts. Tsk!

One fateful day (this was some 5-6 months ago) I passed by Halla Holla and saw their specials on the board.

What caught my eye was the French Toast with Own-Made Berries Jam. French Toast + Berries, the two word combo broke me hah..hah... (not the devil, apparently)

So. It was a Monday. And I needed cheering up.

Good coffee always does that. But of course a little something else won't hurt heh..heh...

Oh. It came with ice cream, which I didn't expect.

I would have preferred it without the ice cream.

Honestly, I couldn't even taste the French Toast. It was all sweet upon sweet. So it was a bit of an anti-climax. Won't order this again. I am sure other people would enjoy it but I didn't.

With all the sugar in my blood .... no...no... I didn't go to the gym. I walked past it on my mall walk. The whole mall is my gym. No need to pay money to huff and puff using all those torture exercise machines.

That's when I discovered ETC was moving out.

So I walked inside to see if there was anything worth picking up.

I have so many pots and pans already in the kitchen and yet I was eyeing this grill pan.

Walk away. Walk away.

Go and look at cats better. Haiz.

  1. Good morning! Yes, good coffee does do the job of cheering one up. However, a study shows that maximum number of cups of coffee one should have in a day is 3 to 4 cups, beyond that, is the opposite effect, a person can get depression if consume too much coffee as in overdose. For me, maximum I would have 3 in a day. Ahhh, pots and pans and all those pretty and useful things very tempting right? So you have to psycho yourself to "walk away, walk away". LOL! Can walking helps to "lower" or "burn out" blood sugar? How does it work? I wonder.

The french toast with berries and ice cream looked kind of small portion. Too sweet, I would not enjoy too, it has to be just right, sweet but not sweet, not easy to reach that level.

    2. Good morning! I usually drink only one cup in the morning on weekdays but on weekends I have two cups. After a meal (especially a carb loaded one) our blood sugar increases. When we walk, we need energy and the sugar in the blood is shuttled to our cells to be converted into energy and that's how we lower blood sugar.

  2. Hubby's coffee was merely 2/3 full like that too during my visit, why ar? The black sesame hummus is more attractive to me this round although I have a sweet tooth. :P

    1. I suspect that if we order latte, that 1/3 is filled with milk. If a customer orders black coffee, they should be given a full cup. Maybe if I bump into the boss one of these days, I can bring up this issue.

  3. Your title made me laugh when I read your 1st paragraph. From your photo, I thought the plate is black sesame paste. That you went and ate black sesame paste with fruits toppings 😅 nowadays also I prefer less sweet food.

  4. Oh dear, another good 'excuse' that I can borrow from you...lol! :D :D Is this the one that cost RM25? I think it's too much for such a portion. For me, I like to eat french toast in its most basic form...with butter and maple syrup (maybe some bacon wouldn't hurt). The best french toast I've eaten thus far is still the one from Ra-Ft & Breakfast Thieves. For some reason, I like to eat berries jam but not berries in its fruit form. I googled and found out that fresh berries is a good fruit for me to consume but realised I don't really like it when eaten in fruit form...there's this hard/prick-ish part where the berry used to be attached to the stem which makes it not a joy to consume (I'm referring to blueberries which is my favourite berry...but in a jam...walawei!).

    1. LOL! I also would prefer a simple French Toast and yes, bacon would be an awesome accompaniment instead of those sweet fancy things. Ah, I get what you mean about blueberries. But the hard part doesn't bother me. I find most berries are not that nice eaten in whole form. They tend to be on the sour side, bland or hardly taste like how they do in jams. Maybe what we get here at the supermarket does not taste as good as the ones grown (and eaten fresh) at their country of origin.
