Post GE 15 Carb Fest #8 : Bonus Post. It Ain't Over Till It's Over

Carbohydrates are VERY addictive, don't you agree? By day #5 of eating carbs I was already having the urge to eat more and more which led me to eating more than one carb meal a day.

Hence there is a day #8, ergo this (carbo loaded) bonus post. Just like those movies where they have bonus scenes after the credit roll. If I am not careful, this will lead me back to my old eating habits again. Haiz!

So this was lunch.

I was so looking forward to going to Ramen Hitoyoshi again because I love the ramen. This one is the Buta Shogayaki Tonkotsu Ramen. Yes, very good till the last drop.

Then later in the afternoon I had another round of the Hotpot 1 Cantonese Kuey Teow, this time the Seafish Slice instead of Seafood.

This one costs RM18.00 instead of RM28.00 and I was right. The extra RM10.0 previously was for just one miserable prawn and one squid. This one however was full of ingredients especially the fish slices.

I was there right about after 3:00pm, off peak hour, and the chef was very generous with the ingredients and the portion size of this serving was much bigger. The gravy was better executed as it was thick unlike before. It was enjoyable and I was so stuffed.

Well, let me tell you what eight (almost) consecutive days of eating carbs did to me.

1. Mental fog. When I went home that day my mind was all over the place. I couldn't focus. I felt very "luan" and anxious. My evening routine (which is very simple) felt tedious and I seemed demotivated.

2. The old feelings came back - anxiety and mild depression. At work I had to try very hard to focus and experienced anxiety when trying to fulfill instructions from clients. I felt slightly panicky. I even woke up in the middle of the night and could not get back to sleep.

3. My body felt heavy and sluggish and I was fatigued. When I woke up in the morning, I was groggy and did not feel like getting out of bed.

4. I was bloated and gained 2.5kg. Some of the weight could be water retention.

5. I was short tempered and edgy and one day I even snapped at my partner. So sorry my lahling.

6. My back pain returned and I had to apply cold compress to relieve the discomfort.

All those symptoms (a result of inflammation) were very alarming and that was exactly how I used to feel before I started the carnivore way of eating. Back then I just accepted all those negative emotions as part and parcel of my life. Miraculously it all went away after I adopted a meat based diet.

So all this carb loaded eating has to stop. NOW. I want to be sharp, awake, alive, energetic, happy, depression and anxiety-free again. I want my mental clarity and calmness back.

So I went to Jaya Grocer to buy some beef to get back to my carnivore ways again.

Lunch. Air fried beef trimmings and pork belly. Proteins and fats are the way to go for me.

Meanwhile outside, my two darlings were snoozing together.

I love them so much.

  1. Wow, got bonus post some more....lol! You can certainly say "oh dear" again. I can't believe just a week of carbs eating can lead to such ill effects for you when you've been eating carbs all your life up until you started your carnivore diet. But then again, you have to admit you did overdo it on some days...but still to put on half a pound a day by just having carb meals is quite unbelievable too (that would mean you could put on 10kg in a month if you continue to eat carbs is quite mind-boggling too!). I believe you won't be eating carbs in a long while after this. ^_~

    1. I had all those symptoms in the past while eating carbohydrates and I just accepted it as a normal state of being. Now I know what good health means and after experiencing that, I cannot go back to the old "normal". It is hard to understand for most people. I can put on weight very easily. One week of carbohydrate eating frenzy (if include snacks and other extras like during CNY) I can gain 10lbs. Serious. Yup, no more carbs for a long while. Lesson learnt. LOL!

  2. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. So no more carb for you. Very easy to put on weight with all those carbs. You will drop the 2.5 kg once you drop all carbs. Girl and Belle Belle are so sweet to nap together. 😻

    1. I have to stop the carbs for now. If I do eat carbs, it will be a once a month affair or not at all. Girl and Belle bring lots of love and joy to me.

  3. RM10 for a prawn and a squid is pushing it a bit too far. What's that in the middle that looks like beef tendon? I love that! Glad to hear that your diet is working well for you! Keep it up! Take care there!

    1. Yes, that's pure robbery! Lesson learnt, won't fall for that again. Look like beef tendon? That must be pork or something else. My meat based diet is good, thanks.

    1. When you reduce or eliminate carbs, you need to increase your protein. If not, you will sure to feel hungry because you did not eat enough.

  7. Now I believe your theory that too much carbo is disaster but you detailed them so well. Just days ago in Taipei I knew something wasn't right with me as I was given too much carbo from Breakfast, lunch until dinner in big portions. It took me almost 5 toilet visits to empty my colons which hardly moved. Then my darling's mood was not right and threw temper at her friend over tiny matters.

    1. Oh dear, I am so sorry to hear that. I am not saying that carbo is bad. You can eat some, not too much. I learnt that proteins and fats is good for us. It has done wonders for my mental and emotional health. I am very calm these days, no more anxiety and no more depression. Physically I have also improved. Lost 15lbs and I have more muscle than fat now.
