Random Food Pics : Friday Dates & More

My partner and I hardly venture out to new restaurants. Instead we tend to stick to a few of the tried and tested. Not that we are not adventurous, only one if us is hah..hah...

I am more willing to try new places and I prefer to do that myself or with my brother. I have to test a place first before suggesting to my partner. And even then, the man will stick to only one dish during repeat visits, time and time again.

Mak's Chee@1 Utama

After our first visit, we decided to come back because I wanted to try the beef tendon noodles.

I had the Dumpling & Tendon Dry Noodles while my partner stuck to the Wanton & Dumpling Soup Noodles

In conclusion, if I come back, I'll skip the beef and stick to dumplings/wantons.

Chillis@1 Utama

My partner eats only one thing and one thing only here.

The Santa Fe Chicken Salad. Without fail.

I eat all sorts of things. That evening I had the Beef Enchiladas

Hokkaido Sushi@1 Utama

We came here once before but I did not take any photos because it was a late dinner and we were very hungry.

Just like the first visit, he had the Chicken Karaage Don. He loves chicken karaage.

I can't remember what I had previously, maybe beef. So this time I had Kakiage Don which is supposed to be fried prawns and vegetables on rice.

What came to the table was so different from the photo on the menu. Turned out to be battered deep fried prawns. There was more batter than prawns and they were not evenly fried resulting in raw batter in certain spots.

We also ordered this Mentaiko Spider Roll

Two Hands Restaurant@Cliq Damansara

This is a place you won't normally find my partner. Oh no. But because we were entertaining and I hosted the dinner, so there we were.

I did not take out my phone to snap photos as I did not want to annoy our guests. But eh, my partner pulak sibuk-sibuk snap pictures hee..hee...

On the menu, this Linguine and Lamb Meatballs was described as "can be shared by two". No, we and our guests are big eaters and everyone agreed that it is not enough for one.

We ordered two of this Portuguese Grilled Chicken & Dirty Rice and this is also a dish that is supposed to feed two. I can easily polish off one on my own.

The Herb Crusted Lamb was very gamey and not to my liking.

In addition to the above, we also had 3 starters (no photos taken) with extra order of croissants for the 6 of us. Our guest of honor loves cocktails and this is the second one for the evening. Hic!

Will I come back here with my partner? I don't think he wants to. So I'll just call my brother hah...hah...

  1. Your man sounds exactly like my missus - she will order the same thing over and over again, not necessarily my favourite so I will have nothing new to blog about and worse, she will never be able to finish and I will have to help her, eat something not exactly to my fancy. Tsk! Tsk!

    1. LOL! I see that I am not the only one then! If I remember correctly, your missus always orders Foochow fried noodles and Kalio Ayam hee..hee...

  2. Your description of your partner's eating habits sound familiar...my husband is like that too. If he finds something he likes from a certain place, he can eat that same thing over and over again (maybe it's a 'man' thing). He doesn't like Japanese food all that much and will stick to boring chicken too if there. That's why I don't blog about the meals I have with him since it'll be the same boring stuff. If it's a new place we visit together, I may end up having to go a few times more so that I have enough 'material' for a blogpost....haha! :D

I thought you like tendon...what happened? I was thinking of trying beef the next time but now that you say you'll skip the beef, so I may have to rethink that...hehe! ;)

As for Two Hands, I did forewarn you to have a lesser expectation as nothing would top the tomahawk experience but since your partner didn't/couldn't experience that, the result may not be as successful. :( If I had (or shared) a starter, the dirty rice would be quite sufficient for two (in my case).

    1. hah...hah.... another thing to add to our list of what we have in common! My partner is just ok with Japanese food and I know he is just accommodating me.

I like tendon but this one was a bit "mushy", if there is such a thing. I did not like the taste and texture. Besides, there is no beefy flavor in the soup. Don't let me discourage you, it might suit your taste. And I'd like to know what you think hee..hee...

You are right, the only thing awesome at Two Hands is the tomahawk. True, true, with starters, the mains would have enough to share. I think we should have ordered more starters.

  6. Ah, means you did not like the beef tendon at Mak's Chee. Was the noodles too dry for you or the tendons too soft? I like the look of the Beef Enchiladas you ate at Chilis but all my weekend makan kaki do not want to step into Chilis with me, so so sad. I checked the location of Two Hands, it is at Damansara Perdana which is not a place I go to so I think I would not get to try the food there. so so so sad again. Well, seems like you are more adventurous than many people, having eaten at so many places and a variety of food too.

    1. Yes, unfortunately. Too soft lah. I prefer the tendon to have some bite. I am ok with the firm noodles and I did add some soup to it. My brother and I tend to stick to places nearby and in that way, we are not that adventurous either hah..hah...

I am more into Western and Japanese.

  8. beef enchiladas - my kind of comfort food! :D your bro reminds me of my late maternal grandfather, who used to eat the same thing for breakfast everyday for decades - a cup of hot coffee and toasted bread with margarine :)

  11. When you mentioned that you do not want to annoy your guests, I feel that.. hahahaa.. with not so-close friends, I also won't take out my handphone... one of my besties always grumble "aiyoh.. can eat now or not?" so much so, sometimes when she is around, I don't want to take... hahahaa...
BTW, I like the texture of the noodles shown in Mak Chee... looks springy and fine..

  12. I'm the one in my family who "responsible" to find new makan places and hubby dare not complaint even though the food of that particular place doesn't suit his taste bud (but different story if I'm with my sisters, they will complaint directly ~>_<~)

    1. LOL! At least you hubby don't complain. My partner will make it known if he doesn't like the place. That means, no revisit with him.

  13. I have not eaten at Hokkaido Sushi and Two Hands Restaurant. That would be in my next-to-eat lists.
I always love Chillis. Their food is always happy meals with bottomless chips and soda drinks.
