When my mum complained to me that the sweet and sour pork that I bought for her was actually chicken butt, I had to investigate.
I passed by the "secret garden" on my way to Restoran 1111. I spotted a gentleman doing stretching exercises.

When I saw that the chap fan stall was serving sweet and sour pork that day, I jumped at the opportunity to investigate hah...hah...
Ahah! Does that look like chicken butt? When I ate that piece of meat, well, it was pork. All the pieces of meat were pork. Hmmm...maybe I was lucky that day. Or the other customers who were duped, complained, hence they started using pork again.
For now, I won't get sweet and sour pork for mum because I cannot be sure if it was pork or the offensive stuff. She already suffered enough trauma hah..hah...
On my way back to DU I passed by this house again. The rose had been transplanted to a pot.
It was a big beautiful bloom.
Lunch was at Red Kettle. I ate the Chargrilled Fish again.
The fish was very tasty and so was the creamed corn. Those thin white pieces are grana padano cheese. I am surprised that I liked it because I usually cannot stand strong cheese.
Of course I had Red Kettle's excellent ice Latte. So good!
On my walk, I spotted this cool car. It is a nice blue.
Last weekend I did a pantry stock take. I found this bottle of Extra Hot Peri Peri Sauce.
It was a free gift when I bought something at Jaya Grocer.
It expired 15-12-2023 hah..hah... OK, to the bin it went.
Sometimes, the system could be the problem. You can do stuff but the system is the limiting factor.

ReplyDeleteWhat I would do and perhaps you may not be able to considering the time and distance, is get her sweet and sour pork from another place.
I surely hope that if this is what this clown ๐คก is doing, serving another type of meat than is mentioned, he could end up in serious trouble if someone has a food allergy and ends up suing him.

DeleteWhen I read your first sentence of wanting to investigate, I took a good look of the photo of the sweet & sour pork before reading further...and thought to myself, that looks like "real" sweet & sour pork for sure (and it was). I'm just thinking that it's very difficult to pass off chicken butt as sweet & sour pork (they'd look completely different)...and also I've never heard of chap fan stalls doing so. Perhaps your mom was mistaken (sometimes the elderly can make a mistake as to what they're eating due to a no. of factors).
ReplyDeleteI've seen photos (on menus) of such cheese (usually in pasta & salads)...and would not choose to order such dishes but now that you seem alright with grana padano (maybe I could be too) though it also looks like shaved parmesan.
Yes, I did think of the possibility that she was mistaken. I told her today what I did and she was very sure that the one I bought for her was chicken butt LOL! Anyway, I'll avoid sweet and sour pork from this place, just in case.
DeleteUsually something like grana padano would out me off but surprisingly I was OK with this one. Maybe the quality is better, hence not smelly hah..hah...

DeleteI think they may mix pork and chicken butt. Wouldn't be able to see that they are chicken butt because if they intentionally mix chicken butt, they would cut up the chicken butt into square pieces and coated them with thicker layer of batter to masquerade the butt into square pieces of pork with thick batter. I don't think your mom would be mistaken.
ReplyDeleteTrue true, very easy to disguise and can taste the difference between chicken and pork. Maybe they mixed or they have discontinued using chicken.

DeleteI smell the cheese immediately when the chargrilled fish dish arrived at the table so it is quite strong cheese. I am surprise that you like this cheese so that means you can try blue cheese ๐ง next ๐

LOL! I have some more expired sauces in the pantry. Terrible! Ah, I went back to read your post. I would think 3 kg is heavy. But once you strengthen your muscles, it will feel lighter.
