A Chicken Meal And A Bookfair

It has been some time since I visited Red Kettle at The Starling.

So last Friday I decided to pop by for an early dinner.

This is one of those restaurants that is best visited at odd hours so that you don't have to compete with the crowd for a table.

My usual Flat White, as good as ever.

This is something new on the menu, Percik Grilled Chicken, described a "Boneless charcoal grilled chicken maryland in percik sauce, urab tempeh – eggplant, cauliflower, tomato, quinoa, corn & ulam".

I might complain that the portion size of the chicken could be more generous.

The percik sauce was a respectable interpretation of the Kelantan or Terengganu version. This would be very nice eaten with rice.

As for the urab (salad) I liked it, slightly sweet and savory with hints of coconut and peanuts.

Then it was off to the Popular Bookfair (today is the last day).

I was just there to look-see-look-see. I have enough books to keep me going for now.

Romance. Ugh! Anyone (old enough) to remember those Mills & Boons (and God forbid Barbara Cartland) romance paperbacks?

I was a young teen then and those books were circulating at school LOL! I read one and could not understand what the hype was about.

Not a fan of fantasy either - I like the real thing - non-fiction.

Now where are the books for the old adults?

Ah! A cat section hee...hee.... Loads of cute cat paraphernalia and collectibles.

This is where I did some serious browsing although I hoped that I would not find something that I could not resist.

This is interesting. But I know enough about keto, so I should keep my money.

After learning about the nutritional profile of a vegan diet, this is not for me.

I have this book, Revenge by Tom Bower, and it makes for interesting reading. At RM28.00, very worth it.

Anyone wanting to complete their When I Was A Kid collection can do so at a 20% discount.

Besides books, there are also toys galore to keep the kids happy. So that was my visit to the bookfair and I left empty handed.

  1. Hello dear friend, love the quotation! Book fairs are great, and I love the colours and displays in your photos! Your food looks delicious!
The book "Revenge" by Tom Bower would be a book I would enjoy reading, because I only read non-fiction. Not only that, I am interested in the royals and what happens.
Be careful about the keto diet! On YouTube there are videos done by heart surgeons that strongly recommend against it. It is good to watch our carbs, but to eliminate them entirely can be dangerous.
I love the cat sign as well as the toys for the children!
I am not sure if you like Brainteasers...I do, but not the ones that give you a headache, just the ones that make you think. LOL! There is one called Rush Hour, it has cars on a grid, and there are cards in the kit. You have to place the cars and trucks like they are on any card, then you have to try and get yourself out of a traffic jam. I find it fun.

    1. I enjoyed reading Revenge and from that book we learn who Meghan Markel is and how she was the one who engineered her introduction to Prince Harry. Spicy stuff. LOL! Honestly, I am too lazy for brainteasers. It should be interesting, if I give it a chance. There are many conflicting information about keto but I understand the science, so I am confident that it is not dangerous. Anyway, I do eat carbs from time to time not because I think they are essential but because I love carbs hah..hah..

    1. I imagine that they could put this dish in the rice section and serve it with rice which is the best way to enjoy ayam percik.

  3. Wow very good self control of you to leave the book fair empty handed. I always have the impression you will visit red kettle with your partner on a date night or was it elsewhere? Correct me if I am wrong. The chicken looks like satay to me. I had finished reading the two books I bought from Kinokuniya bookstore and pass on one of the books in the "recycle books area" in our public library. As for the other book, as it is a good and simple read, I will read it again the second time. Ok, going to bed soon, see you tomorrow morning and have a good week ahead.
