The food here is decent enough, not remarkable, but affordable. You want remarkable, be prepared to pay premium prices.
Where I can see the sushi chefs' heads bobbing here and there but unable to see what they were doing.
I chose from the lunch menu - Steak Don Zen. It is rice topped with 100g ribeye (medium rare) and onsen egg, some veggies, miso soup, chawanmushi (steamed egg) and cut fruits (watermelon and dragonfruit).
This warm towel was brought to the table shortly after I was seated (not all Japanese restaurants do this). It reminded me of a story told by my aunt a long time ago.
The (late) big boss of a prominent automobile distributor (at a dinner my aunt and her family attended) used the towel to wipe his entire his face and then he cleared his throat and spit into the towel.
So to this day, I am afraid of these towels because you never know who and how they used it.
Dear friend, ribeye is probably close to what I had at a Japanese steak house decades ago. Mine was flavourful, though, it sounds like yours needed more seasoning. Eggs....oh, yes!
ReplyDeleteI am sure the ribeye you had at the Japanese steak house was tasty! Mine needed more salt. With benefit of hindsight, I could have requested for a small serving of soy sauce.
DeleteThat late fella who spat into the towel was really am uneducated person in regards to hygiene. Yucks 🤮🤢
ReplyDeleteYes, he was uneducated and yet built a prosperous business.
DeleteOh no....those towels....some Chinese restaurants and hotels also offer hot towels, hope the guests have some civic mind not to do spit on them.
ReplyDeletehah..hah... I hope most people are civic conscious and have good hygiene practice.
DeleteI am eyeing on the chawanmushi.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to be a favorite of many people. I don't really like it, I don't know why >.<
DeleteRakuzen prices, though affordable, is still considered a little pricey compared to some Japanese restaurants. How much for the steak don? Looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteThat steak don cost RM44.50.
DeleteOh no, now you make me dare not use the hot towel provided by restaurants or even hotel. >_<
ReplyDeleteLOL!
