A Happy Birthday Dinner

Ah well! Some updates as I miss this blog (my happy place!) As of today, both my parents have been discharged from the hospitals.

Mum was discharged last Friday (29-09-2023, admitted on 17-09-2023) while dad (admitted on 19-09-2023 and discharged 30-09-2023) came home last Saturday.

It has been a very eventful (and stressful) time for my brothers and I with both parents hospitalized. Praise the Lord that mum has made a remarkable recovery (more on that later) and dad is in much better shape than he was when he arrived home.

On Saturday my brother and I and our mum waited for dad to come home. Earlier in the morning my partner gave my brother a ride to the hospital to settle the administrative matters. It was not until past 3:00pm that the ambulance arrived.

Dad appeared exhausted and worn out when he got home and we let him rest. After everything was settled at home, I made my way back to the office. It was going to rain and fortunately I arrived at The Starling before it poured.

That evening my partner took me out for a belated birthday dinner. I was really tired but looking forward to the treat.

We went to Chillis @ 1 Utama. Since it was my birthday do, I ate (and drank) whatever I wanted. Live a little, right? Which explains the Mojito hee..hee... My partner was hoping I would get drunk but nah.... there was not much liquor in the drink.

I had the Classic Ribeye served with mashes potatoes, broccoli, a sauce and a dollop of garlic butter.

My partner had his usual Santa Fe Chicken Salad. Haiz! LOL! Don't ask me why he sticks to this every time without fail.

Anyway.

So how was my steak? It was surprisingly good. I requested for it to be done medium rare and I got it rare instead but no complaints.

The meat was tender and juicy. I never had good experience with steaks at places that are not steakhouses, so this was a pleasant surprise.

After our mains, we had dessert. I mean, what is a birthday celebration without dessert? I am not those super fanatic carnivores who carry parang and swear that desserts are evil. I will eat the evil stuff once in a blue moon. No need to be so dogmatic about these things.

The Chocolate Brownie was really lovely though a bit sweet for our taste.

The warm brownie was so sinfully ooey gooey chocolaty and my partner (in spite of not being a dessert person) had a few spoonfuls of the decadent treat.

He took a few photos of me but I am not posting it here because I was not looking my best. I looked really worn out.

Well, that was a really lovely treat and my partner really made my day. Thank you my lahling for cheering me up!

I will update my blog again when time permits.

  1. That's very good news that mummy & daddy are home at last. Everyone was very tired but happy now.

What a lovely birthday treat you enjoyed at last. Lahling wanted to get you drunk?? Aha. Noti boy.

The meat was a bit too raw with so much blood la. I would faint.
So you ate sweet warm chocolate brownie. Then ants came to bite later, happily ever after. I know you are very flexible and carries no parang. Good birthday girl.

  4. PTL that both your parents are home now. 🙏 So thoughtful of your partner to treat you to a birthday celebration. Better late than never. Now I am very tempted to try the Santa Fe Chicken Salad because it must be very good since your partner eats it everytime without fail when you both dine in chili's.

  5. Like you, I've also not had good experiences with steaks at places that are not dedicated steakhouses...but at least I can the steak had a nice searing (one tick)....and not overcooked (another tick).

Now since when are you ever concerned with how you looked in your blog. I remember you even showed us one of the little kitty crawling up your body (or was it photobombing your wefie)....hah..hah. P/S: I had a little chuckle when you mentioned your lahling and his Santa Fe Chicken! :D
