Simply Ribs!

While running errands one day, my brother discovered a new restaurant, Simply Ribs@Taman Tun Dr Ismail. Being a ribs lover, he visited one day and sent me a picture of his lunch.

Does that look good or what? That sure got his sister excited hee..hee...

So one weekend he took me there for lunch.

We were early of course and there was one other table occupied. We were greeted by a very cheerful and engaging young man who showed us to our table and handed us the menu.

Browsing through the menu, you will find that they serve more than just ribs which is wonderful because you may have that odd one in your family or party who dislikes ribs and must eat rice/noodles.

We had the Potato Skins as our starter. Fully loaded with minced beef and cheese, it was more filling than skin, not that we minded. Definitely something I would order again.

Our drinks by default, a hot Latte for him and an iced Americano for her. I was disappointed that there was sugar added to my drink. As far as I know, Americano contains no sugar. So I only sipped the top half of my coffee. Note to self : Must tell them next time, no sugar.

My brother, having tried the ribs on his earlier visit, opted for the T-Bone Steak, done medium rare. I could not see any pink when my brother cut into the steak. It was a very thin piece of meat and I reckon it was cooked through.

Though my brother found the steak juicy, there were certain spots of chewy sinew that made it a little difficult to eat.

And this is my Sticky Grilled Beef Ribs. It looks small in this photo due to the large plate. What's with big chunky plates like this? I find them rather clumsy and bulky and would have preferred a more conventional shaped plate of reasonable size.

Alamak, why am I complaining about the plate? Back to my meal, the beef could have been more tender as it still had a bit of chewiness to it. But since I have full dental faculties, it was not a problem tackling this slab of meat. It was tasty enough though I felt that it need more sauce. So I asked for more.

The ribs were served with sauteed vegetables just like the steak. I am not very fond of vegetables done this way and somehow I felt that ribs would pair better with coleslaw or a salad. But that's just my opinion.

Now on to desserts. The server (another guy, not the one who greeted us) suggested the Creme Brulee, so we went with that and the Banoffee Pie.

My brother and I shared the two desserts between us and we fell in love with the Creme Brulee.

It had a nice crusty crunchy top and we simply loved the texture and taste of the creamy Creme Brulee. Next time, we will order one each hee..hee..

The Banoffe Pie was a first for us.

It's made with a digestive biscuit base, caramel and bananas and topped with cream. So of course it made for a delightful dessert.

I would like to come back next time for the lamb or perhaps the lasagna. And of course the Creme Brulee :)

  1. I would be ordering the potato skins with minced beef if I ever drop by here. Unlike you, my teeth are a bit weak so I prefer very tender beef so definitely no steak and ribs for me. Your Banoffe Pie looks so different from the ones that I have seen online before. I wonder what is the main criteria that Banoffe Pie has to fulfill in order to be called Banoffe Pie.

    1. I was also surprised to see the Banoffe Pie like that. I have seen on TV how it is made. I suppose this version is a practical version, easy to prepare and serve.

  2. Those potato skins do look decadent. I have to admit that I'm not a huge meat eater. I eat some, but I like to have it with lots of veggies.

    1. You could opt for the salads but they only have 2 choices.

  3. Both the huge plate and plating looks very old-school. It looks like how I'd plate if I cooked this at home...haha! :D The ribs also look very inconsistent (your brother's earlier ribs have short bones but yours are humongous and long). And your brother's T-Bone Steak should be renamed Half T-Bone Steak...coz what happened to the other half? @_@ Hopefully the beef dishes didn't cost too much and luckily the desserts saved the day! ;)

    1. When I read your comment about the half-T-Bone steak, I quickly googled it and what a revelation! Ya lah, what my brother had was only half, some more so thin! Haiz... The beef dishes are quite pricey considering the portion size.

  4. The steak indeed very small in portion considering the thickness.

  6. Nice to see a beef rib specialist, since most rib specialists tend to tackle pork ribs! Hopefully they’ll consider doing lamb ribs here too! :D

  12. OMG! You were so cruel to eat there without inviting me!! You just need to spit and it would have reached my door step to alert me.
The ribs looked so yummilicious huge and the steak looked like big Africa's map. I will walk over to eat that Creme Brulee tonight!
Talking about potato skins, I have been cracking my head to experiment making for our coming home party. Your Majesty Ah Hong Chee is invited too.

    2. Hi, we are currently in the process of applying for the halal certificate and the process can unfortunately be a long one. At Simply Ribs, our menu is all halal and we only use halal ingredients. This is also a Muslim owed business so no alcohol is served. Hope this clarifies your question

    3. Good to know that as my Muslim friends will feel more assured when they see the halal certification. Yes, I heard about the stringent process and the costs involved.

  14. Thanks so much for the detailed review! It has helped us tremendously in improving our food and service quality in order to surpass our customers expectations. Do allow me elaborate further on the improvements we made and to answer some of the questions that was previously asked here.

The ribs that your brother had in the first picture is our best selling 'Oh Yeah!' Smokey Beef Ribs. That one is made using the beef back ribs, different from the second rib that you ordered, which uses beef short ribs, hence it looks different. We have also mastered the cooking methods of all our Ribs and guarantee that they're fall of the bone tender.

With regards to the americano, we no longer include the sugar in the drink and instead serve the sugar syrup separately. That's definitely a better way :)

Customer satisfaction is our top priority at Simply Ribs, so if ever your steak is not cooked to your liking, we will gladly change it for a new piece.

We do have salads and coleslaw if you prefer that with your meats. No problem 👍

Once again I truly appreciate such a well written review and it is only through honest feedback that we are able to continuously improve. See you again at Simply Ribs!
