Who loves baked beans? Me! Me! There was a time when I lived in a rented room and I used to eat baked beans straight from the can.
Not only that, I used to steep instant noodles (the landlady did not allow cooking) in hot water and then drain the noodles as best I could and mix the noodles with baked beans. That was my pathetic version of pasta.
I'm glad those days are over and I can now prepare nice meals for myself. My favorite way to eat baked beans is with bacon, eggs, sausages and buttered toast.
This Meatballs with Baked Beans is not my original idea. I got it from The Fussy Palate and I thought it was very nice just because I love anything with baked beans. Combining it with fried meatballs is perfect when you want a convenient dish.

- 1 big onion, minced and divided

- 1 tbsp tapioca flour
- 2 small cans baked beans in tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp tomato ketchup

1. In a mixing bowl, combine minced meat, 1/2 of the minced big onion, garlic powder, egg, salt, pepper and tapioca flour.
2. Mix until the mixture is gluey and comes together.
3. Form into balls and fry in hot oil until cooked and browned. Drain on paper towels.

5. In a pan, heat oil and saute the remaining minced onions until soft and translucent.
6. Add baked beans and the tomato ketchup and soya sauce mixture.
7. Bring to a boil and add meatballs. Mix to coat and dish out to serve.
Not a big fan of meatballs (or any balls, hahaha) but I love baked beans. :P
ReplyDeleteThis combine what my family like and what I like ;)
LOL! Generally speaking, I only like meatballs. Not fish balls, sotong balls, beef balls or whatever balls.
DeleteI made meatballs for my girl last Sunday, take back to her school in her jungle - plain ones. Hope to make again soon.
ReplyDeleteHow nice. I bet she enjoyed the meatballs.
DeleteI like to eat baked beans too so your dish looks so delicious!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Another way that I like to eat is just baked beans and toast.
DeleteAla, not my tastelah Kali ni, I ingat Ada sekali je I penah try makan baked beans ni
ReplyDeleteTakpe kalau tak suka. Lain selera kan.
DeleteTak pernah makan baked beans camni..selalu buat sarapan letak kat tepi french toast jer...nanti boleh try la..daging kisar ada banyak..asyik buat spageti jer
ReplyDeleteBoleh tukar selera pulak.
DeleteLooks good, will cook it if i am not lazy...
ReplyDeleteTry try...
Deletewow... sy belum pernah cuba lah baked beans ni PH..nampak sangat menyelerakan.. sesuatu yg baru bagi sy...hihi
ReplyDeleteCubalah. Boleh tahan sedap :)
DeleteAh, this is comfort food...I've actually done this with baked beans before. Just that I don't form them into meatballs, I usually just use minced meat. I guess it's great with meatballs coz the baked beans act like a sweet and sour sauce already...without the work! ;) But I must say I do it more often with eggs but not stirred in like an eggy sauce but fried (and scattered to pieces) before adding the baked beans =)
ReplyDeleteI must try the way you do it. Sounds so much easier. And since I love baked beans and eggs, I must also try your scattered to pieces eggs with baked beans :)
DeleteBaked beans are a favourite in my house, especially the hubby! I sometimes cook them with homemade meatballs too, or if I am short of time, I will cook with just minced meat and potatoes. And I will lepas 2 whole chilli padi in each time I cook baked beans, that's for me to break them up with rice when I eat this dish! :)
ReplyDeleteOh I forgot about cili padi hah..hah... Yes, I must try what you do as it sounds tasty too.
DeleteMe...Meeeee too! During my younger days, my mom used to do it with minced pork or fresh prawns, one tin was not enough for the whole family for I ate most of it! Now my kids like the beans cooked with just egg alone... but I curi curi cook it the way my mom used to when they are not around.. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's very convenient to make a meal with it. I also see it at chap fan shop. They add some egg to it. Seems popular.
DeleteI love meatballs with baked beans. Used to eat this when I was young and I cooked this for my boys when they were little kids. Now I seldom eat baked beans. Ha ha!
ReplyDeleteI supposed you had lots of baked beans earlier on and can now give them a rest hah..hah..
DeleteI seldom eat baked beans but I love meatballs especially fried meatballs so wonder how it would taste if both combine together
ReplyDeleteI like them together, maybe you would too.
DeleteI always have baked beans at home for last minute cooking! Now I should add meat balls too.
ReplyDeleteBaked beans are so versatile!
DeleteFor baked beans I'll normally add in egg and there are 2 ways I do it. Fried the egg then cut into small pieces and add into baked beans or the lazy way, just add in the egg when heating up the beans :P
ReplyDeleteI like your with meat balls added, I'll duplicate it next time! Thank you for sharing :)
I haven't done it with eggs like that, must try because I love eggs. Hope you like the meatball version.
