After dining here a few times (with my partner and solo) I can understand why they are so popular. The variety of (tasty) choices and sensible pricing makes Ke Ren Lai one of the more affordable places to eat at the mall.
My lunch order - Shoyu Pork Belly Don and attesting to my love of meat, a side order of Chilled Pork Belly with Garlic Dressing.
The shoyu pork belly, comprising thinly sliced fatty pork belly, was well seasoned and very tasty. There were also bonito flakes and an onsen egg in the bowl. The portion of rice was very generous and perhaps I could request for 1/2 portion next time.
The Chilled Pork Belly with Garlic Dressing was a disappointment because the pork belly slices were too firm and dry. I think that was because it was chilled for a long time in the fridge. Fat solidifies when chilled. I also did not like the garlic dressing.
Underneath the pork were thinly sliced cucumbers which were refreshing. But no, I will not order this dish again. This dish would be better if the pork belly slices were not chilled or thawed a bit before serving.
On my walk after the meal, I noticed that HWC Coffee has introduced their bakery products. Their coffee is good but more expensive than coffee that I get at kiosks outside the mall.

Dear PH, the quote is very true.
ReplyDeleteI like the ambiance of this place. It looks welcoming and relaxing.
I am sorry that the pork belly meal was underwhelming.
Thanks for the review. I think for the side dish, I will stick to white tofu and century eggs. Have a good day ❤️π
ReplyDeleteSo you have two favourite places now...one for Chinese and one for western. Well, now that you eat rice, you've got a lot more options...lol!
