Today I went to inspect Shen Niu Beef Noodle House at The Starling. I need to find more places to eat out that suits my current way of eating.
There are also side dishes in the form of salads, dumplings or beef meatballs and of course, beverages.
Since I am carnivore, I chose to omit noodles for my choice of Signature Mix (no) Noodles. I was also curious about the Cold Tripe and I got that too.
Ordering is easy, via order chits but my order was taken by a guy at the entrance who guided me on the menu. He advised me that the soup is Chinese style and not Malaysian style. I take that to mean Taiwanese style? Forgot to clarify.
When ordering, I informed him that I did not want the noodles and I understood that the price will be the same.
There were tender chunks of beef, a tendon or two, one or two pieces of tripe, one beef ball and carrots. I took just one bite of the beef ball and left the rest. As a general rule, I avoid any kind of processed meatballs as they contain mainly flour/starch.
I found the soup a tad salty, I suppose it would be all right if eaten with noodles or rice. Tastewise, I would say I liked it. It is not bad at all.
The Cold Tripe salad was quite nice. It had a good balance of sweet, sour and salty. The aroma of shredded cucumber and chopped coriander added freshness to this dish. There is a topping of crispy chili and I found it not too hot, just nice.
I won't mind coming back as this is a good option for my all meat diet (though I will eat some vegetables but not carbs).
It was not a cheap lunch for sure. Anything involving beef, especially at a shopping mall, is pricey.
That cold tripe salad definitely is new. I don't eat tripe though. Yup, beef isn't cheap.
ReplyDeleteIt was something new to me too. I like tripe in beef soup.
Deletethat's very thick broth...yea, i need rice/noodles to balance the flavorful broth!
ReplyDeleteToo strong to be taken as a soup by itself. I also dare not drink too much in case I get very thirsty.
DeleteI will like this beef dish I believe. That tripe is more expensive than the beef. I hope they will open a branch in pavilion Bukit Jalil because I don't know when I will go to starling mall.
ReplyDeleteIf they do well, perhaps there will be branches.
DeleteI'm not a fan of this Taiwanese style beef noodles. At best, I will eat sometimes for a change but will not go out of my way for it.
ReplyDeleteYes, the taste can be a bit strong.
DeleteLooks like the food here has got very bold flavours, not so ngam for me. Yeah, you certainly need the noodles and a spicy dip to balance out the robust flavours.
ReplyDeleteYes, if you are inclined towards more "ching" flavors then this one is too strong for you.
DeleteFirst thing I want to comment is the price is not cheap. >_< By just looking at the colour of the broth, I know it's a very robust tasting soup, although I like strong flavour food but I'm not sure if the spices too overpowering for me.
ReplyDeleteI found it quite strong, so maybe it could be too strong for you.
