Harakiri. Or was it a Kamikaze? I don't want to talk about it but there are many sadists out there who love baking disasters.
No, not you. I was referring to the other readers. They revel in the pleasure of deflated chiffons and cracked sponges. The more sordid the better.
I did say that Baking Is Stressful. How's this for stress?
Out from the oven. Sink, sank, sunk.

Out from the oven. Sink, sank, sunk.
Then it takes a plunge.....
.........spilling it's guts and gore all over the floor.
The CSI (cake suicide investigators) team arrived. Autopsy result - the cake was grossly underbaked. That's why it's all liquidy and couldn't hold itself together when flipped out of the pan.
This was no suicide after all. It was the baker. Guilty as charged.
I've done a few Japanese Cheesecakes in during my lifetime. Wanna see? Wanna see?? I bet you wanna.
From my archive of maimed Japanese Cheesecakes.
Now, who's the sadist?

The Earthquake. Tectonic plates shifted in the oven. |
Cinderella's ugly sister if she were a cotton cake. |
I can't describe it. |
Deflated. That's exactly how I felt. |
Now, who's the sadist?
I was LOLing at the title of this post!
ReplyDeletehah..hah...
DeleteWhat an epic Japanese cheesecakes misadventures you've had too. :P
ReplyDeleteKeep going PH!
(and send me some) ;-)
Sure, the ones that are alive LOL!
DeleteI can be your guinea pig, kakaka...
ReplyDeleteCome, come.
DeleteI very scare spilling on the floor which means have to clean up, haiz...
ReplyDeleteYa, some more so oily.
DeleteHi Phong hong, sorry read about your cake tak jadi. There are times when everything ho haywire, me too got this kind of baking problem.
ReplyDeleteTry again. Wish you all the best in your next experiment.
Have a nice day, regards.
Amelia
Amelia, I will try again. Never give up!
DeleteThat's why I don't bake....coz they're so temperamental! Even with experienced bakers (with the same recipe), they can turn out differently each time. Not only was it a suicide....you had to clean my the "gory" mess! Wakakakaka! :D And the cheesecake you can't describe...I'll call it a marble cake!
ReplyDeletetypo...*clean up the*
DeleteI am having another go this weekend. Suicide mission wahahahaha!!!
DeleteWhat a crazy chef. You snapped every earthquake in your kitchen! LOLOL
ReplyDeleteI could imagine your stress as my wife is also a fussy and crazy chef. Only her tempers could flare inside the kitchen so I usually drive far away.
This cheesecake is too soft and needs special skills! Watch this cake's baking on YouTubes and many could give you ideas what went wrong.
Never mind lah, she give you ang pow every year so it's not too bad hah..hah..hah...
DeleteI will try again until jadi!
Did the cake really roll to the floor by itself?? Or did you just throw it on the floor out of frustration?? I've had countless eggs rolling to the floor by themselves, but for a cake to do it. Sorry, but... HAHAHAHAHA!!!
ReplyDeleteIt dropped when I flipped it out of the pan. Because it is soft and had no structure, it just went splat! on the floor :(
DeleteOh no!!!! Muahahahahaha!!!! Console yourself. Bet mine would be a lot worse. I wouldn't even dare to try.
ReplyDeleteBest thing is to laugh and not cry over it hah..hah...hah...
Deleteomigosh! but at least it looks like it wasn't too difficult to clean that off the floor ... unlike, say, a spilled stew or pot of soup ... and practice makes perfect, so at some point, your cakes will be beaming with pride!
ReplyDeleteCleaning up was OK, but still.....And thanks for the warm words of encouragement!
DeleteI am no sadist Phong Hong, but I lurrrve your writing. If you had a book out, I'd be the first to buy :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliment, Ann :) I think I am the one who is sadistic muahahahahaha!!!
DeleteDeflated, suicide or gory, I wanna taste each and every one of those
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly they tasted good. Don't know about the one on the floor hah..hah...
DeleteThe title lead me to this post. So stress I read. Haha. Why la already sink, sank, sunk then plop on the floor lagi? Kesian..
ReplyDeleteBad luck that day. Sobs!
DeletePhong Hong, you are so funny and so honest. You are very entertaining too. I enjoyed visiting your blog. I am one person who is not particular, as long as it taste great.
ReplyDeletehah..hah...thanks, Nancy :)
DeleteAt least you still feel that it is funny and took the trouble to take photographs of them for remembrance. Did you find out the cause of these?
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't funny at the time. But I thought I could make a story out of it, so. Yes, I know the cause. Will try again!
DeleteOmg it must be really difficult to bake!
ReplyDeleteIt was, and all that effort ended on the floor >.<
DeleteHi
ReplyDeleteIt reminded me the same ordeal I went through when I first started learning to bake. It was devastating. But like you, I persevered. We will be there soon!
Yes, Amy! We will be there!
DeleteLOL what did you do to your cheesecake? I read before about your other stories of JCC, but there is story also that you finally did it and nicedly baked. So keep strong and don't give up :) Have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeletehah...hah....I killed it >.< I will keep trying, DG! Don't worry :)
DeleteI done once. Non-bake cheesecake and it was a failure. Never try again since then. Hehe.
ReplyDeleteOh dear hee..hee...
DeleteOMG! Phong Hong, now I know CSI=cake suicide investigators ! I'm sure those who learn to bake bound to have a few failures. Me too. I know you love cheesecakes and so far cheesecakes and chiffon cakes need more practice to perfect the bakes. And you're so good baking these cakes now !
ReplyDeleteKaren, I need more practice. But more practice means more cake. More cake means more eating. More eating means...die liao...FAT!
